I don't know how many of you caught the latest Edmunds review of Full Size pickups, but it rates our beloved F150s #1. Check it out!

Question

QUESTION???
I looked through the test results and have a couple of questions. 1st the survey states that the tests were performed on similar trucks. Is the Chevy extended cab similar to Fords super cab? Isn't the Ford super cab a full four door? If that is true how can you compare rear passenger seating comfort. I ask this because Chevy has more rear cab room and more of a comfort designed rear seat in their extended cab, yet Ford got a better rating. If I am not mistaken these trucks listed in the test are not even close to being similar. Correct me if I am wrong.

They are similar, ford supercab is not four full doors. And if I read correctly chevys received a better rating in this department not Ford.

By Brent Romans
Last updated: 2001-07-23

Entry/Exit Vehicle Score Ranking
Ford 86 1
Toyota 78 2
Chevrolet 68 3
Dodge 63 4

This is copied from the test results..
To me I am reading Ford as #1 and Chevy as #3
in the evaluation.

sorry the text is not allowing me to seperate vehicle score from score ranking

The Dreaded Coach Is Back, AGAIN ...

Hey Coach,

The Ford Super Cab, is the same thing as a Dodge Quad Cab.

The Ford Super Crew is a 4 door, with a shorter Bed. Similar, to the old GM 3+3's.

Yes ford does rate higher on entry and exit but this different from room and comfortability. Just the back seat was rated low and the front was rated the best. Didn't see a rating on back seating space, but read the article on the Ford and why it was rated the best and it says the back seat is less than desireable, But does say entry/exit is good.

Coach,

I agree with 2000black5.4, I think you might be confusing rear seat comfort (which the Chevy does seem to rank better in) with overall livability. Additionally, the one rating you specifically called out was focused on Entry/Exit. I think (based on the article) that the Chevy got dinged for this one since, among possibily other things, it did not have a driver-side grab handle.

I stand corrected. The Super Crew is the 4 full door cab and the super cab is the new title for the extended cab. Cyclone you are also correct on your Entry/Exit statement. I believe Chevy has a 7 inch overall length above Ford in the rear cab. That is pretty obvious in the length of Chevys extended cab truck rear doors.

which radiator?

I noticed that their F-150 had the Heavy Duty Electrical/Cooling Option. I wonder if it had the 2.02 double row radiator or the standard 1.02 like the rest of the 2000's.

Question

If the Chevy has a 7 inch longer cab, then why is there only 1.5 inches more measured rear seat legroom? I don't find the ride in the rear seat any more comfortable than my F-150. I think the longer cab is just sales-pitch!

The Chevy does seem to have more room in the back seat but it also feels to me they got most of it by taking leg room from the front seat. Cramped for anyone 6 foot or taller in the front seat, kind of like my S10 blazer.

I can't believe that the F-150 ranked 3rd on acceleration times. I couldn't handle 2nd to Chevy but being beaten by a ricer just doesn't settle well with me.

But at least we're still number 1!!!

Wink

I wonder which engine they were testing. I've noticed that a lot of times they use the 4.6L engine when they do their reviews, in which case the acceleration numbers wouldn't be as impressive as the 5.4L times. I find it hard to believe that the 5.4L would just barely crack the 17 second mark. And any ways, none of them can touch the Lightning when it comes to acceleration, so we'll always have them beat!

Not quite right but close.

The Dodge Quad Cab has 4 regular doors.

The Ford Crew Cab (Superduty only) has 4 regular doors.

The Ford Supercrew (F150 only) has 4 regular doors.

The Ford Supercab has 4 doors but the back ones are smaller.

It's enough to drive you batty!
