F150 Engine idle/noise problem
Yesterday my 2008 F-150 5.4L with 54,000 miles stalled when coming to stop. Check gauges message came on. Restarted and the fuel, oil pressure and battery gauges were in the normal range.Drove about a mile and stopped, engine idle slowed with a clicking noise from engine. Touched accelerator pedal and engine sped up and ran fine with no noise.
The idle and engine noise repeated itself several times upon stopping and disappeared with touching the accelerator pedal, finally the check engine light came on and stayed on. Any ideas as to the cause of the problem? My mechanic checked out and said every thing points to cam timing problem or possibly a lack of oil pressure causing issue. The rough idle is only after the engine is warmed up. The stall is intermitant and does not stall all the time. The code that my mechanic gave me is P0012.

my first car did the same thing a lot coming to a stop. i would feel it start to shudder and die so i would just put in neutral and give it some gas and it was good. it did it quite often really when it was at operating temp. i just sold it after i got an explorer sport trac. i got an after market oil pressure gauge (it was kind of a ricer ) and it actually got pretty good pressure (between 25-35 idling and 45-65 driving) but it still did it. a shop told me it could be my torque converter. idk though. could be a timing issue..

It sounds like a timing chain tensioner issue. Possibly the seal is bad. The tensioner is hydraulic and if the seal goes bad it will lose its preassure on the timing chain guide and the guide with smack the tensioner piston. That might be the noise you're hearing. The engine idle would also be rough because the timing is off. If you rev it the guide will push back on the tensioner and the engine would then run smooth. For now this will happen at low RPM, but if I'm right your oil pressure is low even though your oil pressure guage doesn't show it. Safe oil pressure should be no lower then 25psi. You could be at 8 or 10 psi and not know it because the oil pressure guages in our trucks only show oil pressure is low when it gets to around 3psi.
Don't mess with it. Drive it as little at possible and get it to a shop and have it looked over. These OHC engines need high oil pressure at all times.

2008 F150 Lariat with 68,000 miles stalls after warm up when stopped
I am having the same issue. The serp belt and pulley were just changed and after the change this started. I stopped at autozone to see if i was throwing any codes and its not...gages are reading normal and no lights come on. Any ideas....
