If you are sure your truck does not have one it would be easier to add and inline heater to the heater hose. It heats the antifreeze and pumps it through the engine. They work really nice and the install is a breeze compared to completely draining the system and knocking out a frost plug in the block.

I'm going to go ahead and bump this because I'm interested in adding one to my '09.

Been busy with a home remodel so I don't have a garage or I would have checked it out, only thing I've found so far is less than solid info, somewhere on google I read about a guy that it cost 800$ for his winteriz due to the block heater, more info pointed to the front axle having to be dropped to get the block heater. But I have not found any facts to back that story.

I talked to my dealer and they said 5-600 for a full winterize, which is block heater, oil pan heater, trans pan heater and battery pad. They also set the coolant to -50F. He said there wasn't anything too special about it, I'm going to pop the good and check some stuff tomorrow if I have time

Seems like overkill unless you live in Alaska. I have never had a good battery freeze and we get down to -35 degrees C here in the dead of winter. IMO all you need is good antifreeze and a block or inline heater and call it a day but it is your money.

I live in Fairbanks, Alaska. It gets down to about -45F in short bursts, but can hover around -20F for a couple weeks at a time

Yup that is darn cold. So not overkill because you actually live in Alaska.

Some friends of mine moved up to the Yukon this month. He is not looking forward to winter. I told him I couldn't do it because weather that cold makes me cry.

been a while since i been on here.. just thought i would put an end to this thread, i got the block heater installed by a local shop, they said it was a PITA, had to remove the altenator, and barley was able to get there hand in there and get it in, ended up costing me about 430$ for complete winterization including them doing the block heater, if i remember right they said yes you are supposed to jack the motor up or pull the diff down, it is on the drivers side of the engine towards the front, that is from sitting in the truck,
