I didnt see a topic on this or on any of the other spark plug pages. I bought a 2007 f 150 with 100k miles on it. Frankly I thought I was past the bad plug timeline but I was wrong. Anyway I see that the Coils are not factory is there reason to think that the plugs have been changed as well. Now I know I could just pull one out and check but I'm a little nervous doing that without the tool. And if they have been changed I bought the tool for possibly no reason. What are your suggestions?

I cant see someone replacing the coils with out doing the plugs. I'd buy the tool (when I had the extra cash)and keep driving it until it had a problem or got about another 50k on it..

Yes, just pull one. Like you said.

What tool are referring too? A ratchet extension and plug socket?

Is it a 5.4L engine?

Twist the coils back and forth while removing, - AFTER you remove the bolt.

Yes it is the 5.4. As for the tool I was referring to the broken spark plug remover. I have normal spark plug ratchet

Hi Brewsky;

Yeah, they do; the latter half of the '08 MY got the revised heads/ one-piece plugs and brown COP boots, IIRC). The earlier builds still had the original style 2-piece plugs and head design.
EDIT: ( As mentioned in this thread - last page(s): https://www.f150online.com/forums/v8...g-removal.html

OP - My personal take on used vehicles is to NOT assume anything was done maintenance-wise - or done correctly with the proper supplies and frequency - and just bite the cost and do it all This way, you are starting from a known state, and will perhaps also uncover potential problem areas during the course of the inspection and R&R maintenance activities.

That's just me, though...

OP - To be absolutely sure, just pull a plug as 'Brew says ( nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to make sure).

Here's my compendium of maintenance items that may be of some hep to y'all:

Well I have a repair manual and in the picture it just has numbers on it for what I assume is part numbers. On mine they are summit racing coils.

Okay, yea. Hey , when I try to recall which year the brown boots factor in, it comes out wrong.

Well, I have a Cell light on, wonder how many I lost this time
