2002 F150 5.4L Misfire, PO316, PO307, PO174

Hello all,
I have a 2002 F150 Supercrew, 5.4L with 149k. Last Thursday evening stopped at a gas station that had just reopened after being closed for over 4 months (redid pumps but did not put in new tanks). Put in about $15 worth of gas, and on the way home, truck started to sputter just a little bit, in fact wife didn't even notice. But over weekend got much worse. Seems to idle fine, but runs sluggish, more so up hill.

Pulled codes at autozone:
PO316-Misfire occurred in the frst 1000 engine revolutions
PO307-Cylinder number 7 misfire detected
PO174-System to lean bank 2

I have added STA-BIL water removal to fuel tank, added premium gas and driven around last 2 days. Still misfiring although my wife thinks it runs a little better some trips.

I don't know if the gas was bad or just maybe coincidence, but wouldn't idle bad too?
After reading several post here, I'm thinking it may be a bad COP, but would like some input before I go shelling out the money to take it in.
Thanks!!!

I'd drop the tank, dump it, clean it out, and change the fuel filter. Fill the tank with fresh gas and add Techron.

How many miles on the spark plugs?

Well, after doing some digging, it looks like these are the original plugs and wires except for one of each that was changed out back in Oct. of 2008. Could this be possible? I mean we also own a 2003 Excursion V10 with 80k that has already been changed out.

Update:
I decided to make a call to the gas station and inquire about the possibility of bad or contaminated gas. Got the same story from several different employees; turns out that they did replace the tanks and everything else, and they have not received any other complaints. In face there is a local casino that has been using them for fuel since they opened and they are there several times a day with no problems.

So now I am ruling out bad/contaminated fuel and leaning more towards a mechanical issue or something else? Has anyone else had similar problems?

If your gonna replace a COP (one) just replace all plugs and while they do the plugs they can do COPS at the same time. Got mine at pep boys (SP),, had them change the COPS while doing the plugs.

Pick up a set of Motorcraft SP479 spark plugs and install them. No antiseize, 28 ft/lb torque. Use a small amount of dielectric grease in the COP boots, try not to get it on the contact springs.

Clear the codes and drive it. If it still misses replace the COPs.

Unfortunately, funds are a major issue for us so I am going to start with #7 plug and COP. Shops around town are quoting me about $200 that I don't have. Figure I can purchase both for $50-$60.
Any advice before I jump in?
Number 7 is drivers side, second to last, correct?

If you have 30 bucks you can buy all 8 plugs. HIGHLY recommended. With 149k, the rest of them are NOT far behind. If you have basic skills and tools you can change them yourself.

O'Reilly's has SP479's.

rock auto carry's motorcraft plugs and there 4 bucks each last time I bought them 32 bucks for all of them plus 5 or 6 bucks for shipping. pulling the fuel rail makes getting to the plugs easier on bank 2. Go to a junk yard and grab a coil if funds are that tight..

O'Reilly has SP479's for $3.49 each. Rock Auto has them for $1.36 plus shipping, but they only have 6 left.

Like the previous guys said ebay is good place or webstores or your local autostore for parts. The plugs should be easy on the wallet not sure about the cop. I bought one at a local store was 49$. You might be try moving cops around on the same side of 7 but change the plugs. See if the problem moves. Just the two cops you change around,, with the two plugs or all of them.

GOOD LUCK

I wouldn't worry about the cops at this time, but I would definitely get those plugs with 149k on them out of there. After changing the plugs, if it still misses THEN you examine your cop options.

O.K., I was able to change out the COP on #7 yesterday, didn't have the time to do the plugs. It runs much better, but still similar issues. Went ahead and had codes cleared, and the only one that came back is misfire #7.

I am going to change all of the plugs today (ugh), but am wondering if it necessary to torque the plugs? With a 2002, seems I read both ways. Also, I don't have a compressor to blow out any gunk first so was thinking of going to car wash first?
