What changes were made to the 4.6l engine in 99 and 2000?

I have a 98 windsor. Yesterday I looked at a 2000 4.6l romeo and it had coil packs. I thought only the 5.4l had coil packs.

My 2000 has coil on plug just like the 5.4L. It seems to pull better than my 97 did. But having said that it could be the grin factor from having a new truck...

Thanks for the info. I was surprised to see the coil-on-plug on a 4.6l.

Do you have a Romeo or a Windsor engine.

Do you know if BOTH Romeo and Windsor 2000 4.6l engines have coil packs?

As of the 2000 model year , actually some time in late 99 the windsor plant only makes 5.4 and 6.8L engines. Romeo is the only plant making the 4.6L.

I noticed the coil packs on my 4.6 when I opened the hood before I took it out for a test drive. And the dealer said that was new for 2000. All I can say is it seems to go faster than a 99 4.6 I test drove but then again it had the 3.08 gear and mine has the 3.55 gear and the 99 was a super cab and mine is a reg. cab
