Thumbs up Airaid "Whistle" fix

For those interested, Airaid was quick to offer a free fix for my Airaid/K&N "whistle" (which, on my truck sounded just like someone blowing across a half-empty longneck). After reading another thread here, I wrote Airaid from their website. I had an answer back the following morning. After I called the writer, I had the fix in my hand about four days later. Free. A small aluminum "spacer" -- it's a 1"-long aluminum cylinder that perfectly fits inside the Idle Control line (the larger of the two lines on the intake). This spacer has about a 3/16" hole thru the center......effectively making it a restrictor. My noise is gone. Performance has not been affected. Kudo's to Airaid for responding quickly.

That's interesting. They sent me a complete new tube. The hole was smaller in the idle control so the same effect. He asked me to install it and let him know how it worked. I guess since it DID work, they found a much more economical way to fix it.

Hmm, I'm almost tempted to ask for the spacer fix instead. I think the tube they sent me was new enough the finish was still a tad bit soft. After cleaning it, I noticed it had very fine scratches where I wiped. The original one was tough as a powder coated tube and didn't have a mark on it.

Very funny, Matt. Thanks. But I'd rather have the 2mpg increase I've obtained from using it, not to mention what I'm NOT spending in cheap
crap paper filters that barely do the job.

Matt90GT,

We're talking about the Airaid FIPK, not the Airaid home/office decorative TB spacer/whistle.

sundog7,

I've recieved the aluminum tube with the hole in it from Airaid because I had the same exact noise you had, but I've got the Airforce 1. I went to intall the metal piece yesterday and couldn't figure out where it fits. It goes in the bigger of the two hoses by the throttle body right? Did you take out that black box that is in line with the bigger of the two hoses(I think it's called a silencer) when you installed your Airraid? Mine is still in and leaves no room for the aluminum tube.

Any help would be appreciated.
