I apologize for the negative reply GUYS!! Please don't take the negative part of my reply personally...I typed before I thought. Too easy to read something into nothing sometimes. I have edited that post to help clean the egg from my face.

I am curious as to why "BON" has this Mobil 1 info with batch #'s, yet I have heard or seen nothing anywhere else? I know they can be out in right field on some issues, but they have #'s supporting them on this issue. Has anyone found this to be credible yet?

Cool

Hello everyone. I asked the good folks at exxon-mobil about the rumored oil recall. This was their reply:

Michael, a small amount of Mobil 1 5W30 motor oil was reclaimed due
to a production issue that has since been resolved. Because Mobil
1 is formulated with performance reserves, the withdrawn product does
not present performance problems for vehicles, it meets or exceeds
all manufacturer and industry standards, and -- like all Mobil motor oils --
is fully guaranteed within manufacturers' recommended oil drain
guidelines as noted in each vehicle's owner's manual. Although this
limited batch could be expected to provide a superior level of
performance, it was recalled to satisfy the company's own rigorous
quality assurance standards. Mobil has always been committed to
providing only the highest quality product possible.

Thank you for contacting us and for your interest in Mobil 1 products.

I hope this sheds some light. regards,

Well, it sounds no different that the 'spin' that any company's PR dept. would put on a potentially negative situation. However, Mobil has a winning product with Mobil 1 that they have spent a lot of research and development on, and, as it is now a 25-year-old product, they would be wise in protecting the integrity of their product and the loyalty of their customer base. I still trust it.

This does bring to mind another thought though. I wonder what other changes we can expect, aside from the already announced station and refinery closings, for the now FTC-approved merger of Exxon and Mobil.

Before Exxon takes control of Mobil...
I am sure that the Mobil products will be unchanged...although Mobil has to sell 2,400 gas stations and there are a few other requirements that have been mentioned.

I don't want to throw a wrench into the works here, but I went down to my local Auto Zone here in Oklahoma City to get some Mobil 1 5W/30 and they were completely out. I ask if they had any in the back and the clerk told me it had been recalled and he hasn't had any for about a month. He said he tried going to some of his competitors to buy some so he had some on the shelf, but nobody else had any either. He told me that he was told an additive was left out or not correct. So the mobil 1 5W/30 recall is still going strong here in OKC.

This link is to the Mobil 1 Tri-Synthetic Product data sheet. It searched the entire ExxonMobil (Post-Merger name I guess) and couldn't find anything about a product recall.

civbuff,

Every automotive parts store, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc in the Columbus Georgia, Phenix City Alabama, Dothan/Ozark Alabama area has Mobil 1 oil in every weight on the shelves. No shortage whatsoever in my area.

Weird thing I noticed though..EVERY store except ONE in my area is selling the Mobil 1 oil for $4.29/quart. The Wal-Mart closest to me has been selling it for $3.78/quart (for some time now). I bought several extra quarts since it is much cheaper.

Same results here in Covington,Ga Dustoff. Everyone wants @$3.99 per quart around here. I found the 5W30 Trisynthetic in a 5 quart jug at Walmart for $14.99! Now I'm just waiting on someone to put the individual quarts on sale. But as you said-no shortage at all.

Guys,

I have been following this topic from the beginning and what irritates me is that I bought Mobil 1 5w-30 for my last oil change in early October and used it withing a week.

Many others here have probably done the same and don't have the faintest idea whether the oil we bought was on the recall list.

Here is the reply I got from Mobil about the recall.

Thank you for contacting Mobil.
A small amount of Mobil 1 5w30 motor oil was reclaimed due to a production issue
that has since been resolved.

The recall was for real, although I too searched thier web site and found no mention of ANY recalls.

Question

Was the oil recalled for serious problems, or just a little out of specs?

I don't think we will ever know for sure..I read that an additive had been left out..so MOBIL recalled the oil.
