Question 300HP 5.4L

I have heard the dohc may be an optional engine in the 5.4L, since GM is pushing their highest HP available at 300HP? Anyone seen any articles on this? I have a 2001 SuperCrew ordered? I can take it or wait? I tow a 8000# Prowler TT with Slide. Have pulled it with a 97 EB Expy 5.4L. Need more power, especially on hills!

Thumbs up

If you pull 8000#'s I would go with the superduty and a PSD engine.
PLENTY of hill power.

You are not going to be happy with that truck. 8,000 lbs is too much. I bet if you check the tow rating it's close to the max, if not over. You would be better off with a F250 Crewcab. Bigger brakes, axles, suspension, V10 and PSD options. Prolly just as much $$$.

I second that last remark! Go SD with PSD for what you are trying to do. You can get a crew cab in it.

Mar,

The other posts are correct. 8000# is too much for a F-150. The Super Duty with the PSD or V10 is a must have for that kind of work.

I for one would love to see a 300 HP DOHC 5.4, go to the General Discussion section and look up "Want more power...how about an XLTi".
