Post Oil

I have a 1997 F150 with a 4.6L and I'm thinking of changing to Mobile 1 or a synthetic blend. What are your thoughts?

see my topic "what the hell is this blue smoke now?"

noise seems to have started right after I switched to Mobil 1 and now it burns oil.
I have no idea if Mobil 1 has anything to do with it yet.

Thumbs up

I have used Mobil 1 in my truck now since I bought it new with 100 miles on it. It currently has 31K miles.

No smoke problems as of yet.

If you're going to switch go for the full synthetic or stick with regular oil. Synthetic blends offer absolutely no benefit over the standard dead dinosaurs.

Sierra99,

How is your truck running presently? How many miles on it? Using any oil?

If your answers are "great," "lots of miles," and "no," don't change a thing. If it ain't broke, don't fight success.....

I think that you can only benifit from going to synthetics. I would not waste my money on the Blends though.

Some reasons that you would benifit from synthetics are:
*Increased fuel economy
*Engine runs cooler,
*Low temperature fluidity,
*Low volitility- doesn't evaporate or cook off at High temps,
*Reduced oil consumption-Less blow by and oxidation
*More stable-resists the formation of sludge, varnish, acids, deposits and other types of degradation.
*Engine stays cleaner

One note: Be sure that the synthetic is 100% synthetic, and not some type of hydrocracked or blend. ie. Castrol Syntec- IMHO I would either go with Mob1 or AMSOIL since they have been around the longest and have a proven track record.

Also use the best filter you can get, stay away from Fram!
