Oil Filter Removal
What's the trick to removing the old oil filter with out spilling all the oil out onto the driveway? The filter barely fits through the maze Ford put around it.

Place a piece of cardboard, plastic sheeting, sheet metal or some other non porious substance on the crossmember under the filter into your drain pan. That way the oil will run into the pan and not all over your frame.
When I changed mine I went to a friends house and parked on an angle toward the driver side and oil still dripped into the street. I wiped the frame/crossmember with a rag when I was finished. The people with the remote oil filter have it nice.

A small butter container(plastic cup) fits real nicely under the filter and on top of the crossmember..losen the filter let the oil drain out then remove the filter completely........good luck

On my 2000 with 4.6 there is a factory installed drainpan on the frame under the oilfilter. When I took it off I simply tipped the remaining oil into that pan where it ran into the jug via the V notch that is in the pan.

I noticed that wal-mart sell this metal pan that is at leat 2' wide and 3' long about 1/2" deep. It seems like it would do a decent job of catching any oil that would spill out of your filter.
Though I always use a big carboard box cut open. When it get too saturated I through it out and get a new one for free.
