For '98 the HP was 205. I would guess that for 2000 it is the same. Maybe a 5 HP increase.

'98 4.2L Horsepower is 210. It went down to 205 HP in 1999/2000.

if you want instant punch it aint got it. but if you want a very usable truck that can be a real sleeper light to light. this is it.
i've had mine in the mud, the snow, the mountains, and down the road for the long haul. (wis to fla)
i actually wanted a v8 but the only black stepside i found had a v6. guess what, i love this thing. low ins, low purchase price and the power aint bad either. granted i can't pull any houses but it sure hauls my dirtbikes and boat.
and it surprises a few folks with v8's now and then.

Sorry Joshman no pics yet but I hope to real soon. The muffler makes the 6 sound like an 8 at idle and various rpms. I think Flowmasters are a higher quality piece though. Haven't heard one on a 6 yet.

Cool

Karick11,

The Dynomax on my truck is just the muffler. It seems quieter then the OEM muffler. My wife doesn't like it. What I would like to get is a true dual exhaust system. Maybe I will drive down to mexico and have a shop cut and bend me a set of pipes for me. The price is always right down there.

F&B, thanks for the data. I was at the "local" speed shop asking about the Gibson "cat back" system, and to my suprise, they were installing one on a 4.2 right then and there. I talked with the truck owner and waited around to listen. Man, it sounded good. He went with the two out the back with the wildman stainless tips. It looked as good as it sounded. At idle it had a nice rumble like an 8, and barked nicely when he went out the door. I'm going for one.....
I'll post my results, but after hearing one, the results are in!........

Smitty,
I have the Gibson cat back system on order with the dual rear outlets. I went with the optional stainless tips as they looked great on the truck that I saw and heard them on. It was a 4.2 and it definately made it sound outstanding. Its more of a "looks" thing for me. Somewhere on this site there is a guy with a link that takes you to a picture of his truck and a sound file. He has a 4.2 with an aftermarked exhaust that sounded good also. I'll poke around for it. As for the 4.2 headers, I havnt heard of them yet, but that would be a nice way for the true duals to breath through!
Rick..

Question

Karick:
Did you get the Gibson Catback System?
And if so how does it sound?
Also Did that aftermarket post on headers turn up anything for the 4.2's yet or have they yet to of been released still?

thx.
