WMS Velocity Tube Installed!

WMS Velocity Tube Installed!
My Velocity Tube arrived from Western Motor Sports today! I've got it installed and took it for a drive. It definately feels like there's a little more kick than before! And it sounds a little more commanding as well! Considering my truck is basically stock, I consider this my first performance mod, and I'm pumped! Gibson Side Swept Cat back exhaust is the next planned mod, but that won't happen until after Christmas! Then maybe next summer I'll be able to get my Super Chip!
Install took just over an hour, but only because I waited until the Tube was fully installed to put the air temp sensor in, and then the rubber grommet popped into the tube, and I had to disassemble the whole thing to get the grommet out! The second time I installed the air temp sensor first, then installed the Tube! I the hardest part of the whole process was getting the air temp sensor out of the stock Tube! That alone took almost 20 minutes! What a bear! The rubber couplers fit real snug, so I eased this process with a paper towel dampened with soapy water, they slid together much easier that way. I think I will also need a longer rubber tube for the PCV valve, that or a couple clamps to secure the exsisting hose. At half the price of of an Airaid or K&N Tube, I felt it was a good deal, especially considering I already had a new K&N filter!

Paul, I installed mine approximately two weeks ago. I have a superchip in mine and a flowmaster three chamber muffler. The difference to me was extremley noticable. I too pushed the rubber gromet through the inside of the tube. I guess I should have known better as snug as it was.
I would like to hear the results of others that have installed this on their vehicles and see if they have had simular results performance wise---Thanks for the feed-back, Have a Merry Christmas and good new year---Regards,

One thing I'm real interested in seeing is how this affects my gas mileage. I'm leaving for Georgia next Wednesday. I average this trip about once a month, and the best gas mileage I've gotten to date has been 18.3 MPG, and that was with just the K&N Filter mod (if you want to call that a mod!). I'm picking up a Gibson Exhaust system tomorrow, but won't have a chance to install that until after I get back. I'm keeping track of these mods, and how they effect my MPG, so next trip will have the Velocity Tube and Free Flow Exhaust! I'll keep you posted on the results!

The problem I had was the small hose that goes into the intake was a little bit to short, luckaly I had some heater hose hanging around, so I just cut a piece to fit.
Also none of the holes are in the right place, and the finish quality was not good at all.
No longer on my truck, back to my modified(silencer removed) stock intake tube

I just ran my first tank of gas through my new Velocity Tube! 17.8 MPG doing battle on the beltway! Not bad for combined city and highway! I leave for Georgia tomorrow, so I'll see how it does on straight highway! Wish me luck, I expect traffic to be a bear!
Merry Christmas!

Due to the interest and then the good remarks, I ordered a WMS velocity tube on the 18th. I paid for the quickest trip to guarantee arrival by Christmas.Shipped out monday and arrived tuesday. It looks pretty good, although not quite what I expected.Mine has a few minor blemishes in the black powdercoating, possibly from shipping. The tube itself appears to be a 3" exhaust pipe with a 90-degree mandrel bend. Two pieces of connectors seem to be molded, while the other look like radiater hose. Not too impressed here.Is this about the same quality as the Airaid? The wife wrapped it so I can't install till the 25th.Will respond on performance whether real or imagined. I previously installed K&N, a Flowmaster 40 series dual out catback and Hypertech chip(please don't laugh, didn't know about Superchips at the time). So I'm interested if the Tube will perk my old 5.4L up.

Well, the trip went much better than anticipated, traffic was unexpectedly light! Another plesant surprise was my gas mileage! 18.4 on the first tank of Sunoco 92 and 18.6 on the second tank with Texaco 89! The other noticable difference was it's ability to hold the hills without the constant downshifting! I had the cruise set on 75 the whole way, and never once had it kick down, unless I did to get out of the way of another car! I'm very happy with the performance and gas mileage gain I've seen with this mod, and hope to see additional improvements once the Gibson cat-back system is installed!

Well I got it today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Took about 1 1/2 hours to install. Looks neat and has a 4 barrel sound when you lay into it. I am not sure of the power yet but in seems to be a little stronger on the low end. So far so good.

KnightS,
Yes, mine came with the same parts. That peice that looks like a hunk of radiator hose acts as a spacer where the tube attaches to the Throttle Body. You may not need it with the 5.4 engine, I have the 4.6 which may have a smaller TB! Once it's installed it looks good! I had the same general impression when I first opened the box. I definately have seen and felt the results since installing it, but then my truck was bone stock, so this was the first mod I've made, and so the effects I've felt may be greater in contrast to yours just because I have no other mods yet. And, considering the cost is have that of the Airaid and K&N Kit, it fit into my budget much better! Good luck with your Tube, and Merry Christmas!

Ok..... I have had it two days now. I think I like it! Everyone I show goes nuts over it. My son who has an opinion on everything wants one now for his truck. It Looks great, sounds great and seemed to add some power to the 4.6. The WMS Velocity tube gets my knod of approval.

This is what they said
Power and mileage for your 4.6 or 5.4 Truck. Our Velocity Tube replaces the factory intake silencer assembly while retaining the air box to isolate hot engine air. A new hi-flow tube runs from the air box to the inner fender to draw cold air. Works with the factory replacement K&N filter. Testing found .5 second improvement in 0-60 times.
