Matt90GT,

I do haul things in my truck, but I also like to haul a** when I have too, esp. when I meet people like you, who think just because I have a truck, that the truck is going to be slow. Yeah a mustang might beat me, but it wont be by much. My truck is not a lighting, but close enough.
HAHA! I am choking most everyones chicken tonight! HAHA. LMAO

To be picky, a 5.4 2wd is NOTHING like a lightning in any performance aspect. Once you drive one, you will understand. Oh also, I dont think your truck can do the 1/4 mile @ 105mph. It is closer to mid 80s. So by the time you see the 1/4 mark, I would be past the 1/2 mile. I would say that is pretty bad.

Lets see. 0-60 in a truck, slow. Slower than a camary, slower than a accord, slower than a ricer with a 3 story wing and NOS. What is the point? You would buy a lightning if you wanted some sub 6 second 0-60 times. I like a good laugh and all on the street, but you have the mustang to get serious with from Ford. Heck it if you win the race, you lose in the MPG contest!

0-60 Time

I don't know if your question ever really got answered, so I will try to help. I tried to read through this whole thread but got EXTREMELY tired of Matt and his damn posts. I don't care about any of Matt's vehicles except his truck. If I wanted to to read about Rustangs, I would find a Mustang forum.

I recently read an article where they compared the F-150, the Ram, the Silverado and the Tundra. The Ford (4x4 with 3.55 gears) had the 4.6 liter in it and it ran 0-60 in the high 8's. I believe it was 8.8 sec. Hope this helps.

Well since everyone else is doing it and you are such a mild manner type guy(joke)...

Those are some impression looking bolt on mods...So tell me, do you go inside the engines????

Have you done any frame off restorations???

I see you have the equipment,,but can you drive it????

All it looks to me is that you can almost talk-the-talk, but can you walk the walk????

I can throw buzzzzz words around also....

Anyway my 69 would spread your fox body all over the street...

Heck my diesel would hang with your stang...and get twice the mileage at the same time!!!!!!

You should lighten up on these guys that dont know the buzz words like you do....

Been turning wrenchs since I was old enough to hold a wrench....
Do you do any computer controlled diagnostic's?????

Bet I have overhauled more engines then you have driven, owned, and even dreamed of owning....

Maybe if you are ever in the south...we could hook up and do a little playing with the vehicles......

Be nice-----or nobody will play with you!!!!!!

Stump Jumper, someone must have paid to push that F150 down the road!

"Displacement-wise, a 4.6-liter V-8 is on the small side for a full-size truck. When it was new, our F-150 could reach 60 mph in 10.4 seconds and the quarter-mile in 17.9, performance that held losing a tenth to 60 but gaining a tenth in the quarterafter 40,000 miles. But to many of us, the F-150 felt flat-footed. Unbelievably slow for the first 20 feet. Takes so much throttle it feels like the parking brake is on, read one log-book entry. During its stay, the F-150 aver-aged 14 mpg. But that number plunged big time when we drove at constant speeds above 75 mph."

Hey Mach1, bring on the corners. I am not worried about straight lines in the stang. For your PS stinky diesel, does it get 56mpg? Cause my stang gets 28mpg.

For frame up, you see the '39 in the pics? The original flat head is in the garage going on a '29 here soon after being blown.

For diagnostics, I have played with fords since they went EFI. Easy as pie! Scan with the CS light and a 6" piece of wire.

For other cars, '69 camaro with 550hp is what I built up in highschool and a friends 79 mustang to 300hp after an overhaul in the garage. beyond that a lot of SCCA road racing with Alfas and Ferraris when I was in highschool. My step dad and friends were and most still are into racing the alfas. We stripped them down, built a tubular frame. Shaved the pistons, fly wheels, etc until a 2L motor had about 250hp.

Let me know anytime you want a try to hold a corner with me around PIR, I will toss a nickel in every time I lap you. You may be rich by the end of the day!

Yeah,, you can talk the talk, throw some buzz words around, I work 40 hours a week turning wrench's, and 40 hrs a week in a wafer fabrication fab.(AMD). I make the worlds fastest processor's, work with lasers, UV radiation, pneumatics, hydraulics, chemistry, phyics, work and show engineers how to repair 3 million dollar equipment. Been building machinery while you were in diapers. beat many a fox body stangs with the Mach1. So I get as good fuel mileage with twice the weight and will hang with your stang straight line. I wasn't around racing while growing up so I read alot and went to school for mechanics.

And I will say what Mom said---be nice to the other kids or you will have to play by yourself!!!!!!!!!!!

Lighten up on the rookies....and everyone for that matter.....

The 2wd 5.4 does a bit better:

"Zero to 60 mph. .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .8.0 sec
Zero to 100 mph. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .24.3 sec

Street start, 5-60 mph. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .8.2 sec
Standing 1/4-mile. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .16.2 sec @ 85 mph

"

Again, car and driver.

Hey Mach1, I have a hard time believing a 69-73 mustang can get 28mpg at 75mph down the highway unless it is on the back of a trailer. But it is cool that you get the car out and not leave it in a heated garage like so many others. I commend you on that.

If you dont like my tone, ignore it and read the facts. It is free advice, be thankful for any you get. For your other comments, your old. Your point?

Lightbulb MATT ACTS LIKE A KID. NOW I KNOW WHY

Here's a thought. You know that pic of that kid in the Mustang that Matt posted? That's Matt 10 years ago, sitting in his Momma's 'Stang.

Also, for somebody who doesn't see the need for 0-60 times in trucks, he sure knows how to quote the 0-60 times from magazines. I wonder if he writes letters to the editor for them to stop posting those times since he doesn't see the need for them.

Matt,

He didnt have the $$$ for a Lightning, but he wanted a truck and got what he got. Dont criticize him.

BTW, to those Matt offends and pisses off, use the ignore feature. User CP>Edit Ignore List.

I had money for the L , but I am not abuot to put my wife in that thing. It would be way to much power compared to her current Sunfire.

Since this topic is way off now. I will add that I am going to go ahead a rebuilt my engine ni the mustang. Gonna pull it this weekend. Gonna be one hell of a project.:o

My only comment is that this thread must hold the record for replies in a two day period. You can see the original post took place on Oct 11. King James replied on Oct 15, now there are 41 replies (actually 42 with me) on Oct 16.

I concur with Dennis (well maybe I had two comments) that 0-60 may serve a purpose in racing (as well as 0-100 and 1/4 mile), but it's also just as important for everyday driving purposes to know what you can do with what you got.

Thumbs down Slower than a what??

Matt90GT

LMAO on that one.In your dreams that they could be faster than me.except the ricer on nos!! Get your facts right. the car and driver mag used an extended cab 4x4. We are talking about reg.cab/2wd.Mine done 0-60 a half a sec quicker in stock trim. My mpg is no less than 16 mpg mixed driving. I could have afforded a lightning, but I didnt want to. I do have the next best thing, A FORD TRUCK, so if you dont like it, keep your facts to yourself!!! LAST POST!!!

Mach1, I had a 351C in my 1970 Cougar. Awesome engine. When I finally broke it in and had the first oil change, I opened it up. My GOD! It was a sleeper. Just what every 15 year old kid needed in high school! I wish I still had it. It was able to hang with a Duster 340 and creamed a Challenger 340. The only car in high school that it couldn't beat was a 396.

Ford should have done more with the Cleveland.

BTW, does the '69 have the same spring towers my '70 had? Made changing plugs a real challenge. I always bought 9 or 10 plugs because I knew I'd break at least one.

I drove that car so hard that eventually, it had to be sent to the body shop because the doors didn't fit right anymore.
