thermostat

Anyone here have problems when they were replacing their thermostat? We swapped it, made sure to use a new gasket and permatex, and it leaked. We tried to tighten the two bolts and the housing broke. We went and got a new housing. Then we tried it again and it leaked. We used the same gasket so that was probably the problem. Then we tried again with a new gasket. We went to tighten the bolts, using a torque wrench this time, and after applying 15lbs like the manual says, we broke this second housing. Any comments from anyone? Tomarrow we're going out to get a replacement on the housing and are going to try again.

Use a straight edge and see if anything is warped...make sure the thermostat sits in there right...its easy to get the lip inbetween..

Check the intake and housing for straightness...

You probably didn't have the thermostat in there right. It's easy to have it slip down and cause the housing to break when you tighten it down. Try putting some permatex around the outside of the thermostat to "glue"it in place while you install the housing. Just don't let the permatex get in an area where pieces can fall of and get into the coolant.

3rd Update

The housing is a problem area. According to the dealership, the housing is on it's 3rd part number. Apparently, they have been working on the problem. I caved in and bought one from them for $60. It looks like they have switched to aluminum from cast iron because of this issue. $40 more than the cast iron but I'm tired of messing around with this Made in China crap
