Pappy.
I don't think you "lost" it, it was probably stolen; unfortunately it happens a lot.
I have a bicycle cable & lock on mine but there are more sophisticated ways of locking the spare in place.

Angry

Well, if it was stolen it should be pretty easy to catch the SOB! How many yahoo's could there be in Edmonton riding a unicycle?

that brings up a good point, Pappy if you look at, say Denny Andrews Ford in the west end, each truck they sell has a lock and cable on the spare. Maybe this is a problem in edmonton, i moved here from Vancouver, so i don't really know as of yet.

I had the ford spare lock that slides into the winch area, and it must have bounced out, as it's gone now, after about 6 mos. I haven't really thought about another solution, but might in light of this discussion

Pappy,

If its like my spare it should be easy to spot with the big ugly marks from the frame on it.

It is kind of common for those cables to break in all trucks; dodges, nissans, toyos, fords, chevys.

Car and driver was doing a long term test on a Dakota and they lost it some place on the interstate cause the cable broke. You need the extra cable and lock to keep in under the truck.

Unhappy

Spend a lot of time on "roads least travelled" while camping/fishing/hunting in the mountains and the foothills and the badlands and the prairie. Sort of think it was lost rather than stolen............but you never know. Whatever the cause, I'll invest in an extra locking cable as soon as I replace the tire and rim. I could think of a lot of other things I'd rather spend $400 on.

try this link:

You should be able to find a spare or extra fullsize tire for cheaper than $400.
