Post When to change plugs?

Hey guys,
I know this has been discussed before, but when has everyone changed their plugs, and is it hard to do? I just turned 20k, any brand/type suggestions? Thanks Gino

Hell... I just FOUND my plugs! I have the 5.4 and was looking for the normal wires and distributor which usually takes me to the plugs. NOT! They are "Coil on Plug" and look easy to take out! They sit right on the manifold (intake)...

Shouldn't be that difficult, but you might want to check with someone who knows about doing it! Might be some sort of special way to take off the coils??

Shouldn't have to do it for 100K ??

BUT, I would crack them loose @ 50K!

The factory plugs are platinum and are recommended by Ford. I use the Bosch +4 plugs and highly recommend them.

The plugs and wires are suppose to last for 100,000 miles, but I don't think it would be too bad of an idea to check them at the 50,000 mark. I've used Champion platinum truck plugs and had good luck with them. I've got a buddy that use to run Bosch plugs and he swithched to NGK's. I will run NGK's and Accel wires when the time comes. Unless there is something better when it's time.

Well, if you plan to keep your truck you may at least want to pull them at 50k and put a "dab" of "never seize" on the treads. A que tip with a bit of selicone paste in the plug boot won't hurt either.

For those of us with the 4.2's the best way to R&R the plugs is via the fender wells with the tires off.

I put Motorcraft 42EE double platinums in mine ($3 and change per). The 97 came stock with 42E's on the drivers side and 42EG's on the passengers side.
