do you know that ford has a point system that rates dealerships? I know this because i used to work as a tech in a ford dealership, they send cards out to you after you have had service done , i beleive that you can obtain these cards via mail by asking for them or calling the customer service number( the i don't give-a-***** crowd)But any way these cards get back to ford who than rates the dealer ship , It works because enough people here complained and the dealership lost it's heavy truck line.
With all the people here some one must know some one who has this card photo copy it what differance would it make post it on the net than every one could send it in. Ford cares that we are getting screwed. The dealership will get reammed and straighten out or be out of buiness.

I am sure there are other mechanics that work at ford shops that can tell you horror storie's, I know i can..... but that's not the point lets get toghther and find out what can be done instead of just complaing about it. The first step is letting that zone rep know what happened,go above him if you have to don't give up that's what they want you to do!!!!!

Sorry long text but that's my nickel's worth, i will turn over the soap box to some one else.

p.s. this topic is in wrong section it belong's in the general section, steve will probaly move it.

My local dealerships..not just FORD really bite (except the Saturn dealership)! They lie, parts prices are more than outrageous and they basically treat people like crap.

Saturn's approach to taking care of their customers is something every dealership needs to look into.

A lot of dealerships wont let you into their service bays to watch them working on your vehical but here in the south, most of them will keep their big doors open and I always stay just outside and watch everything they do to my vehical. A while back when I still had my celica, I took it in for something. I'm standing right by the big door near my car when I heard this god-awful scream from one of the mechanics working on a 4-Runner that he had up on a lift. Then the whole transmission just tumbled out of it and fell on the concrete. The guy wasn't hurt but I think the transmission was. They still picked it up and proceeded to reattach it back into the truck. I never when there for any more work. And I still try to find a vantage point where I can watch the mechanic when they're working on my truck. Also, my husband is doing a lot of reading-up on the powerstroke so "IF" anything goes wrong he can do the work.

I agree with everything (negative) said above. I have not received decent service from 3 different dealer's here in South Jersey. I have had 4 Ford vehicles since 1993, the only one I haven't had problems with was built by Nisaan ( Merc. Villager), which my wife still drives. Service advisors dont know squat, they never let you talk to an actual mechanic and the 1-800-sorry-we- cant-help-you-we-can-only-take-down-the- information line is powerless to do anything. I realize that most if not all new vehicles have some problems, but if the higher ups at Ford dont start figuring out that these problems need to be fixed fast and effectively they are going to lose their precious market share. FMC may be willing (grudgingly) to do what is necessary but the dealers are certainly not! FMC needs to burn a few dealers butts to get the point across.

My humble rant!

One of the major problems in my area is both Ford dealerships are owned by the same person. Same for the GM dealerships, all owned by the same person. If you get bad service or sales at one, can't just go to the other 'cause they don't care either. Manufacurers should get rid of these mega monster dealer groups, then the dealer might be affected when you leave his dealer to go the the next one.

My girlfriend has a '98 Escort ZX2, at about 20,000 miles it was about 2 quarts low on coolant, I couldn't find a leak, so I checked the oil, sure enough, oil on the dipstick. With the engine running and warm, you could see exhaust bubbling out of the radiator and a large amount of water exiting the exhaust. I've seen this before and it was obviously a blown head gasket or cracked head. We took it to Ford, who had to keep it for 7 days, then told us that there was absolutely nothing wrong and that they did nothing to the car. It is obvous to me that they put radiator sealant in it and are praying it holds until the warranty expires.
Well, the money she was saving for a Mustang will now be going toward a Firebird, and next year I am trading my F150 for a Silverado.

I would find it hard to deny a crack in the block, head, or blown gasket would cause the problems described. Don't dealerships get paid the going rate by Ford for warranty repairs? Good luck with the half as# bandaid they gave you.

Tina-- EXACTLY..I forgot to mention that!

fomoman- the silverado's are having reliability problems and are not being recommended as reliable vehicles (per Consumer Reports)...just to let you know. The F-150 is still highly recommended.

Here in Rochester NY, we are blessed with the Ford Auto Collection. Nine of the 12 Ford dealers sold out to Ford. Now they have a monopoly on all aspects of our needs. Personally, I used to think that if the salesmans mouth was moving, he was lying. Now, I beleive that if he is breathing, he is lying and needs to be shot with a bazooka. I have a squeeking rear spring bushing. We are not talking Rocket science here folks. DO you think they can find their wat to order a new on my say so, Nope, they have to confirm with a service visit and then spray some voodoo juice all over it rather than replace it. And then, and then, and then, blah blah blah blah............
The majority of them are a bunch of "hiney vents".....
Lastly, did you ever notice that the average service writer has absolutely no clue of anything that remotely resembles auto mechanics??. They act kinda like the local politicians........... Lets see BP is now 150 over 90 !!

The Ford dealerships here in the Oklahoma City area have been consolidated into Auto Collection as well. All managed by Fred Jones Ford, the SCUM of the Earth. Someone mentioned customer satisfaction cards. Get this, Fred Jones supplies the cards to customers ALREADY filled out, with the highest ratings, all you need to do is sign. Pete Stewart used to be the service manager for the downtown OKC location, guy is an ABSOLUTE SACK OF DOGSH**. Kevin Benton is the service manager for the Edmond location, has NO CLUE. Jumped him a few times. For the most part, I just use them for parts, they don't come near my rigs. That has been determined to be agreeable to all parties, they don't **** me off and I don't embarrass them in front of other customers. Oh yeah, Karick11, was thinking about you, bought some Kodak film.

I can see this thread raised some blood pressure!!

I'll vent some more!

I took my 98 Expy into Ted Britt in Northern VA where I bought it.... Asked them to look into a knocking sound (which I have documented) which occurs in the mornings when its cold... They said they found NOTHING and that I have a bad belt...Charged me 36.50 for 1/2 hours work, without replacing the belt... FOUND F150ONLINE.COM and GOT EDUCATED!!!!!!!!!!

Went to Jerry's Ford (Annandale, VA) with the TSB for Piston Slap in hand......New engine without ANY questions asked!!!!!!!

Hey Ted Britt, nothing wrong with my engine, eh?????

They reimbursed me for the $36.50.... I showed them the receipt from Jerry's!

They didn't do SH*T!!!!!!!! Bet they never looked at it!

One thing I have learned..... When you go to the dealers, accept the fact that your gonna take it in the *** WAY BEFORE you ever get there..... It eases the pain!

I bought a new 429 SCJ Torino Cobra in 1970 on a sunday evening, as usual I was only interested in the amount of payment that I could handle. I traded in a '69 Mustang, gave the dealer my payment book for the Mustang. He said since this is an early payoff you will have this much equity in the Mustang also a refund on credit life, I was at the limit of what I could afford. When they opened the next morning I was in the body shop to have a ding repaired and here comes the salesman looking for me. He said that "we" ran into a problem, It seems like the payoff was $200 more than what they expected (they had the book to figure this out) also credit life was $50 less than they expected. to make a long sad story short They said they took the liberty to obtain a loan for me from Household Finance Corp. to make up for the $250 Ofcourse I said Bull ---- I want my Mustang back, at which time I was informed the Mustang was already sold (It was still parked where I left it sunday evening at closing and this was monday morning when they opened) and they couldn't take the Cobra back because it's now a used car. The salesman said he would have to talk to the manager and after an hour they called me in and there were four men that looked like mafia hit men standing there, the salesman said that he would just have to eat the $250. at which time I told them sorry I can't afford any more payments.

The bottom line is when ever the banks are closed they probably tell you your pay-off is less than it really is and tell you credit life refunds are higher than they really are. They probably had a little scheme with the loan shark at HFC for a cut there too. How many people would have just said "sign me up HFC" When customers are mostly worried about payment amounts some of these thieves will do anything to make the payment look appealing

By the way this dealer is no longer in business and in '70 $250 was a lot more money than it is today

Don't get your drawers in a knot, babe. That was directed at the Fred Jones Auto Collection technicians in OKC. One of the dealerships swallowed up in that mess was Fleming Ford in Newcastle, OK. Service manager was Luther Dawson, super good guy and a straight arrow service department. Fred Jones forced these employees out with pay cuts and demotions. Luther went to Hudiburg Ford in Purcell, OK and took several of the technicians with him. If it's something major, I'll drive down there, but if I have to get something from Fred Jones, my mood turns VERY ill just thinking about it.

Cool

Holdbacks, rebates, incentives, floorplan, and totally overlooked: interest. Some if not all dealerships get interest rates at special deals and slap some extra points on it for the customer. Realize this, some dealerships average 200 cars per month (my dealership is 400+) At $2,000 over invoice profit, they can't afford to stay in business. Lights, salesmen, mechanics, equipment, secretaires, management, etc. all need to get paid somehow, and nobody accepts sticks and shells.
