Got my Pacesetter FIPK today

Anyone else have one of these?

I ordered mine from J.C. Whitney about 8 weeks ago; naturally, it was backordered, but it finally showed up yesterday. After my discount, it came to about $70. I figured, heck, for $70, if it's crap I can always return it, but if it's OK, then it's a hell of a deal.

Initial take on it is that it appears to be built pretty well: mandrel bent intake tube (decent welds) and pretty good hardware, etc. The filter looks like a K & N, but I doubt it for the $$$$ I spent.

The instructions were text only: no pictures. Instructions pretty vague, so it might be an interesting install.

Anyone have any experience with this particular unit? If so, your input on installation would be lots of help.

Thanks in advance.

After you get it installed, can you throw a picture of it on here?

Talking

Got it installed just fine, with only minor hassles. I had to make a run into town for some additional length of 3/4" hose for one of the two air fittings near the throttle body, but other than that, it went OK. The other air fitting that runs from the throttle body to the driver's side valve cover installed just fine, except for some minor re-routing of the stock plastic tube. The plastic trim cover that fits over the throttle body (the one that says 4.6 Liter) went back on OK, except that the 3/4" hose had to be tucked down a bit for the screw holes to line back up.

This FIPK is unique (I guess) in that it retains the outlet side of the stock air filer housing. But that was OK as I didn't have to surgically remove the MAF unit from the stock housing.

A test drive produced no computer errors (so far). Altogether, it took me a couple hours to install.

I'd have to say that for $70.16, I'm satisfied. Especially in light of the $200 that a K&N costs. We'll see how it holds up.

The JC Whitney catalog # is: 47-6502U. I ordered it on 8/11/2001 and it wasn't delivered til 10/25/2001. I think the list price (or feature sale price) was about $75. Assume it fits bot the 4.6l and 5.4l.

I took some pics and will try to figure out how to post on Monday.

I got the K&N and putting the rubber grommets on was a PITA. Nice paint job on the truck. I'm not into custom paint jobs that much but that looks good. Got any pics of the intake yet? I never heard of that brand of FIPK's.

Hmmm...

J.C. Whitney + $70 sounds like the Air F/X intake they've been advertising recently in truckin' magazine. It too keeps the MAF inside the stock housing.

Yeah, that's what it was advertised as in JC Whitney: Air F/X.

I'll post the pics if I can figure out how to get into my photo gallery. Any hints?

OK, if I can get this picture thing to work, here's the picture of the AIR F/X FIPK.

Thumbs up Seems "faster"

I thought I'd give it a couple days before posting again about any performance improvements after installing the Air F/X.

While just a subjective impression, the truck definitely seems more "robust." Seems to rev easier and seems to have more "nuts" when it kicks down to pass. And do I hear a bit more "snarl" in the exhaust?

Now if it would only give me some better gas mileage....
