Squeaky Serpentine Belt

Does anyone have any tips for fixing a squeaky serpentine belt? Back in the spring I got a '99 F-150 Super Cab 4x4 with the 5.4 liter engine. In the warm weather everything was fine. But now that it's cold in the mornings, the serpentine belt shrieks and squeaks for about the first five minutes after I start the engine (until things warm up). Since the truck was still under warranty, I had the dealer replace the belt and tensioner, but it didn't seem to make any difference. I also tried some of the "belt dressing" available in the auto parts stores. It didn't work, either. Any info appreciated.

My '99's belt started to shriek when I floored it and it only had 1,000 miles on it. Dealer found something wrong with one of the pulleys and fixed it. Replaced the belt. Haven't heard a squeak since. I recall them telling me it was not aligned right. Another member here said his squeaked too until he tightened the mounting bolts on his a/c compressor. It was loose, so the pulley was skewed. Putting it back in alignment cured his problem.

one of the pulleys not bein ligned up right doesn't make sense though since it only does it till it warms up,but what do i know.mine has just started to do that,it's a 2000 with 45,000 miles and the original belt.the only time it does it is in the morning when it is cold outside, and when i floor it and it shifts hard into 2nd.i'm gonna try tightening the pulleys.

Cool

HI!... I had the same problem with my truck about 2 years ago. The squeeling got worst after I installed my ASP power pulleys. I ended up buying a aftermarket DAYCO "COGGED" belt that was 1 inch shorter than the stock belt. This causes the belt tensioner to pull a bit tighter on the belt and no more squeeling. Has'nt squeeled in 2 years.

Thumbs down squealer

Same squeal in the a.m. on my 99 4.6. goes away after a few minutes of idle or driving. I'll try wrenching on the pulleys...going to keep a close eye on this post.

I have the same problem with my 2000 5.4. It only seems to happen below 55 degrees. After about 30 seconds the sound fades away. I think I'll check the tensioner tomorrow.

I had what I thought was a squeaky pulley. Only did it on a cold start in the am. Took the truck ('00 4.6 xl, 26K miles) in, dealer service knew what was up. Replaced the belt w/ a new one under warranty. Service reciept listed "replaced belt as per TSB".

Post Second time is the charm...

Squeaky belt problem since the truck was new. Dealer replaced the belt the first time and roughed up the idler / tension pulley with some sand paper. This worked for a while, only to return. Just recently had it in again for other stuff, and asked that it be checked again. This time, the idler / tension pulley was replaced due to bad bearings along with a new belt. So far so good.

I have had this problem since day one (each time the temp dips below 50f).
Have had new pulleys, and belt, new adujster NO fixes. Simply carry
a can of GOOD Silicone spray lubricant (I use a product from Gunk),
a good spray should last a few days. Also seems to allow the belt to last a little longer. This was my cheap fix, as the truck is now out of Warr and they
(Ford delaler) couldn't fix the problem.

Alot of times on the belts slipping first thing in the morning is dew or moisture on the belt makes it slip once it slings the water then no noise....Normal operation.....
