Maintenance questions

I've got a 1987 F150 6 cyl. with 70000 miles and there's a couple maintenance items in my service manual that I can't find out how to do in my shop manual.

What is a crankcase emission filter and how do I replace it?

How do I clean the idle speed control bypass valve.

Hi Mike

On my old 88 F250, the crankcase filter was inside the air cleaner housing. So look in there.

Would running cleaner thru carb help idle speed control..i dont know, maybe someone here can help...

Also try posting in "pre 1997" board, may help.

Good luck....OT

Mike-
The filter is inside the air filter box. Just follow the hose from the front of the valve cover to the drivers side fenderwell. It will be the small foam filter mounted where that hose meets the air box.

The ISC is the cylinder shaped thing mounted to the side of the throttle body. Unplug it, and remove the two bolts that hold it down. be careful not to lose the gasket. Clean it internally with a can of CRC Brakleen (green can, not red can). Allow it to thoroughly dry, and reinstall it with the gasket.

Take care,
-Chris
