Gas Mileage Report--5.4L

Since I bought my BEAUTIFUL NEW TRUCK!!! 8-) back in August I have been tracking gas use. So far, I've driven it nearly 3,000 miles and I have averaged overall just over 15mpg. My mileage went up 3 mpg after I installed a tonneau, which is in line with what others report.

I dont do a lot of stop-n-go, hardly any infact. Straight shot on the eway to work and I dont drive during rush hour (as it is here). I have a very light foot and am a very smoooth driver (my wife complains about it!!!) I have a K&N and I am using mobil 1 5w30.

anything else I can do to improve mileage???

3mpg just because of the cover? That just seems really hard to believe.. Ford is always looking for ways to improve fleet mileage in vehicles.. If they could get 3mpg just by making a cover a standard feature, I bet they'd do that for sure..

I think your mpg increase is more due to the engine just breaking in than because of the cover.. The cover won't hurt though..

Just keep your foot light, and you'll get better mpg's than most folks here..

Thumbs up

Yup, 3mpg from just a tonneau. Others have reported the same....I figure that $300 tonneau (bought a ford snap tonneau) will save me about $500 in gas a year!!!! Based on price of gas here (outrageous) and the miles I drive.

Hi Karl. Don't get to worried about the mileage untill you get about 10K on the odometer. I couldn't get any better than 15 - 16 untill I hit 10K. Now I"m getting a consistant 17 - 17.5 with 12K miles @ 70 - 75 MPH highway.

Question

Well, mine has 29,000 mi on it, I bought it with 26,554 on the clock. I dont know if I will get any better.

I've got a K&N in it, running mobil 1 5w30, keep the tyres at 55 lbs, even "reprogrammed" the computer. I dont pull anything and dont haul anything in the bed. And I am a real easy driver.

Oh, I do get about 18 on the highway.

anything else I can do???
