Question Low fuel light, what does this mean???

I wonder what you thought when you read the subject? I know what it means, but my question is: How many miles or km's can you do when that light turns on (normal driving).

So far I did 45 kilometers, but I feel like the like light and I are playing "chicken" and I always back off and loose

I know its not good to run the tank dry but I was just wondering...

Well mine comes on after I used 20 gallons or so.I filled it up right after it came on once to see how much was left since I have a 25 gallon tank and it took 20.x gallons to fill I had around five left so what ever kind of mileage you get times the number of gallons left when your light first comes on should be close to what you can do once it first comes on.

Cool

I believe in 54regcabs post it was said the reason for the light coming on so early was the fuel pump is in the tank and the fuel is used to cool the pump.

I think my owners manual says that the low fuel light will come on when you have 1/16 of a tank left.

Seems most of us say the light come on with about five gallons left. That is 1/5 of a tank. Much more than 1/16 which would be just a hair over one and a half gallons. And that would not be much warning.

I never let me tank get that low, but
you could try doing the cool digital
gauge thing and see what the fuel tank
sensor says for real.

The mustang version is at http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/news/99hec.htm , they probably aren't
that different.

I tempt fate all the time. I've had the needle on the guage past "E". This can get really nerve racking with my guzzlin V10. I've gotten to down to about 3 gallons left in the tank before I freak and buy gas. One of these days it's gonna spit and sputter and then I'll be in trouble...

If you run it low all the time, I guarantee you'll shorten the life of your fuel pump. Those little motors maintain pressures of something like 60psi in the fuel line and will burn out quickly without a constant supply of fuel (coolant). I replaced two in a previous car before I learned my lesson.

Hey Kenster, I looked and on page 6 that is what it says. And yes, on my truck that is about 1.53 gallons.
