Angry Aahh!! Crap I'm pissed!

Ok, here is the deal. I'm switching over to amsoil today, I order the engine flush and pickup a cheap STS oil filter to do the flush with. I pop off the old filter, put the STS on, pour in the engine flush and crank my baby up. Next thing I hear sounds like a faucet running, I shut off the engine and get out of the truck and there is oil all over the dam place!! I mean I had oil in places on that truck that I didn't know existed! Spent the next two hours cleaning out the garage! Apparently what happened was that the cheapass gasket on the piece of crap STS oil filter "slipped" off when I screwed it on. In all my years of changing my own oil, I have never had that happen. Anyone else ever have this happen?

In any event I basically threw away the engine flush since I had dumped out about 4 qts of oil on the floor. I changed the oil and oil filter to my amsoil and everything is fine now. My question is since I didn't get to use the engine flush, how big of a deal is it? Do I need to plan on changing the oil again in a couple thousand or just say the hell with it? I plan on adding a by-pass filter in the next couple of weeks?

Sorry about your gasket, its never happened to me either. I am sure there are those that will disagree, but IMHO engine flushing is a waste of time and is not good for your engine, unless of course you never change your oil. Using a quality synthetic like Amsoil should keep your engine clean. I think that alot of these additives are just money makers for the vendor. I use Mobil one and ONLY use additives in my gas. Good luck,Terry.

A few years ago while changing the oil in my wifes Taurus, I wasn't paying attention to the filter replacement and hadn't noticed that the gasket didn't come off with the old filter. So, when I put the new filter on, it was on top of the old gasket. Like you said, oil everywhere! I felt like such a doofus since it was clearly my mistake, not like your situation where the POS filter was at fault.

As far as the flush, I also don't think it is a big deal. IMO, I wouldn't ever use an engine flush but then again, I don't let things get to the point where an engine flush is needed. If your truck has had regular changes and maintained well, I don't think it is needed. Maybe like you said, changing out the new AMSOIL and filter in 1000 - 2000 miles should be more than adequate.

Thumbs down Amsoil is snake oil

By simply using a very high quality motor oil, preferrably a synthetic or blended synthetic, a high quality filter with anti-drain back valve that is all you need to do. Routine oil and filter changes at every 3000 miles and NO ADDITIVES.

Amsoil is not high quality motor oil! It is snake oil. Point me to a Amsoil refinery? Where do they get their feed stock from? Every person that I have known, personally, that has used that crap, has ruined a perfectly good engine.

I would dump it immediately and use a major refiner synthetic before any further damage is done.

I'll be the first one to tell you that I have no love lost for Amsoil dealers and their often outlandish claims, but your statement, sir, is pure unadulterated bullhockey.

Amsoil is a good synthetic motor oil, as is Mobil 1, Royal Purple, Syntec, Exxon, and many others.

I challenge you to back up your statement with even a single, verifiable piece of evidence. Got any oil analysis stats? Lab test? I seriously doubt it.

Synthetic oils are compatible with dino oil

Don't worry about flushing the engine, or getting every drop of dino oil out before going synthetic, the synth oils are OK with the dino oil in small amounts...says so right on the bottle.

Running Castrol Syntec 5w50 engine, Syntec ATF in 5-speed gearbox and transfer case, and synthetic gear oil front and rear.

Dam I knew it...

I knew there was no way I could ask a question about oil without getting someone on their soap box. Why I ever said what brand of oil I was using is beyond me, should've know better
FordOnly...what does the brand of oil have to do with either my questions or the fact that the POS filter fell apart? Answer, not a dam thing!! Judging by the fact that this is your first post, hmmmm.....

Everybody else..thanks for the imput, thats why this board is here. I don't think I'm going to worry about it too much, you guys are right, a little dino in with the synth won't hurt a thing.

Thanks

Not to worry. It's obvious that FordOnly is a troll. How do I know? He says just what a troll would and he's only made the one post. Ignore him. Or her. Or it.

Syntec

Don't want to rain on anybodies parade, but Syntec - if it is Castrol- is no synthetic, it is just a super refined oil that is designed to normalize carbon chain lengths and get rid of some of the stuff in normal oil that can gunk up the engine.

Sorry

Sorry
Wasn't there a big lawsuit over the term "synthetic oil"? Mobil suing them? I thnk Castrol lost. If you watch Castrol's current commericals it's different than it used to be, you know the one- Where all the engines are running WFO on stands with an oil name in front of each one. They all lock up and smoke one by one except for one. All of the white coats gather to see.. blah blah

They used to say(I think I have this right)"Performs in ways conventional oils can't" Now, it's "Performs in ways no other conventional oils can". Subtle, but vastly different. They added no other and took off the 't

ROTFLMAO. Some people are more passionate about lubricants than anything!!!

Ok, not to glamourize trolling by responding but.........Amsoil sucks and I'm out to prove it. I just went to Amsoil ATF and Just did my last oil change with the remaining Mobil 1 (I mean Coral Snake/Rattler blend) and will prove Amsoil sucks by using it starting with my next oil change! You wait, if my tranny will hold out long enough, I'll be posting the results of my blown up engine as well. I'll show you!!

(psst. FordOnly's IP traces back to an onsite mental clinic in a refinery in Iraq)

Castrol

Yep. Lost big time! But Castrol is still good oil vs some of the others. First started using it in 1970 in my motorcycle. Switched to Mobil 1 in all my vehicles starting in 1990. Have to admit that Castrol had me fooled for a while on the Syntec stuff and even switched for about 6 months. Was ticked off once I figured it out. Is this a great country or what!

God bless America, really!!!
