fast idle

I have a '92 F-150 302 that idles at about 1700 rpm all the time no matter if it is warm or not. Can someone suggest a fix for this? Thanks.

P.S. I am new at this website.

Have you done anything to the truck, ie: tune up? Start by unplugging the battery to reset the PCM and the KAM. If it still idles high, unplug the MAF. If that doesn't do it , plug it back in and unplug the IAC. And the last one to try is the TPS. Let us know if it stops.

92 f150 has no maf. and try not to unplug the battery yet. check for code's first. i think several folk's here can help you with that. or give you link where you can get info. start with iac. maybe tap on it unplug it. allso make sure the wire's that go to ect. sensor look's good. but try to pull code first.

sorry. you do not have a maf on a 92 year. that would be a mas air flow sensor. a tp. is a throttle position sensor. it would be mounted at the bottom of where the two big hose's go into the intake from the air cleaner. and a ect. is the engine temp sensor. you should have two temp sensor's. one for the temp gauge and one for the pcm. the one for the pcm should have two wire's. and it's at front of intake manifold. into a coolant passage. it's a good idea to alway's check to see if it's ok. without this working ok. the pcm could think the engine is allway's cold. and want a fast idle. just something to think about. iac, is the idle air control. it's a funny little thing mounted by the throttle body. it's to control a small amount of air, so to adjust the idle. not sure this is helping but you'll catch on. just looking and makeing sure thing's are tight is ok, you can hurt anything. even if you unplug it. it will only set a code. good luck.

Hey thanks a lot. When I get some extra time I will try to check out all these sensors. Thanks again.
