Post power surge

When i'm driving on the freeway with my 1999 f-150 5 speed stick, i feel a "surge" if that's the right description. The engine seeems to hold back power. It could be in 4th or overdrive and this will happen. Not sure if this is normal. I'm sure others with manual trannys have experienced the same thing. Bob.

No, I can't say as this sounds familar to me. I only feel a surge if I press the accelerator. And really big surge if I go WOT. But just driving along and the engine speeds up by itself??? No. Does your tech also show increased rpm's???

I apologize for not explaining properly since i'm not mechanically inclined, but i guess the sensation i feel when the surge happens is akin to a gust of wind hitting the front of the truck preventing it from going faster.

I have a 97 4.2 Auto and it does the same thing. Most of the time it will happen about 55-59Mph. I don't know why myself.
