Why/When Did Oil Fliter Move

Why/When Did Oil Fliter Move
I noticed a few people say there have been instances where the filter was creamed in an accident.
Does anyone know why and when it was moved back to the block?
Has anyone had problems with their remote filter??
Thanks--Bob

Rhino Step Bar (coming), Ford Bug Shield,Even the hitch propeller, More to come... My 99 Expy was destroyed in a Wisconsin Tornado (No B.S.) Allstate did good by me but I still took a hit on mileage.

ExpyBob,
I just noticed, your's a my Expy sound almost like twins.
Not sure where the filter used to be, I just know that my Jeep Grand Cherokee was a heck of a lot easy to change the oil. After 4 changes I'm getting better but the placement of the filter is horrible. At least I CAN change it though. I don't even touch my wifes cars. She's got a Volvo now but has had Mercedes for the last 12-14 years and I never did anything but put gas in them.
Do you run synthetic? If so, do you notice any difference.
I'm running Pennzoil 5w30 but change it every 3k to 4k miles. Just curious about synthetic.
By the way, have you ever changed the in cabin filter? I need to change mine but haven't looked to find where it is. DO you know? Anyone else? I think the cabin filter may be unique to the climate control in the EB.

I think I read the remote filter was part of the ORP, but have been concerned about a minor collision wrecking the engine. The filter is mounted to the frame though, so it might take a bad hit to hurt it.

Don;t know when, but money is probably why. It's cheaper for Ford not to use it. They did add the deflector piece for the diff to catch the oil.
