Amoco 87 Octane - Best MPG Yet!!!
Ok, I have posted topics, read threads, and done my own research by trial and error.
I have used Mobil 93 Octane for the past 5 years. (Speedpass is nice). Since I bought my truck in Sept, 2000 (new) my MPG was about 12.1 - 12.7 on Mobil 93. It now has 6600 miles on it. After posting a message here about which grade fuel to use, I found out that for my "stock" truck, I should run 87 Octane in my truck since it's stock. That the computer would compensate for it. So, I started running Mobil 87 Octane. My mileage remained virtually the same for well over 1500 miles. My mileage went to 12.5 - 12.8 on Mobil 87. I have tried Texaco 87 (12.8 best), Citgo 87 (12.5 best), Hess 87 (12.4 best), and Shell (11.9 best and ran horrible & had trouble starting in the morning). I have been using Amoco 87 octane for only the past 3 tank fulls. I have noticed my mileage increase to 13.1 - 13.5. I figure if I stay on this brand, it will get progressively better. I have averaged about 270-280 miles per tank in the city ( I drive in heavy traffic to and from work). I got 305 miles out of my last tank with the A/C on in the same heavy traffic. I would say this is a major improvement. I have the 5.4L auto, 3.55LS 4x4 ext cab. I didn't buy it for the mileage, but it would be nice to not have to fill it up every 5 days at $30.00+ each time. Gets a little expensive after a while. Especially coming for a 4-cyl Honda Accord.

I also get my best mileage from Amoco 87. Granted, I have the V6 but it seems to be the best for my truck. I drive about 70 miles a day round trip with a mixture of both heavy city and highway driving. I average about 450 miles per tank (hard driving) to 510 (grandma driving). And since there is a Marathon, Shell, and Amoco all close together, I take advantage of the pricing wars they have. Just my .02.

I bought my truck used w/92K on it and was getting about 12-13mpg. After tranny fluid/fliter change, Amsoil engine flush, K&N fliter and a single flowmaster 40 series, milage went up and stayed around 16-17.5mpg!!WOW!! Changed to a mud grip tire, and of course milage decreased-10-12mpg . Now that I have all-terrain's again, done all fluid/filter changes, plugs, etc.,etc., I cannot get above 13.5(granny driving and not above 60mph. Average is around 12-13.5. I will agree on the Amoco, but there is an Enmark station around here and this and Amoco seem to get the best, run the best, and exhaust smell is very "clean". Worst so far has been Texaco-less than 11mpg. granny driving. Had the same prob. w/the shell gas except the hard starts.
Would like to get that 16-17mpg back though :
