Plug at back of 5.4L engine?
There's an allen head plug (10mm?) on the driver's side of the 5.4L engine, near the back. It's approx. 6" above the oil pan. Does anyone know if a sender can go in there, and if so, would it be exposed to oil, coolant, etc?
Thanks.

That is a plug for your coolant. I have my temp sender in that spot. Seems to work good. However, if you take that plug out, there is another 3-4 quarts of coolant in the block, and it will all come out!!! so be ready with a pan.

Shark99,
Thanks for the help. What range of temperature readings do you get from that point? I had read that ideally the sender should be in the coolant stream, but that port looks like it would be a straightforward installation. However, I have Autometer's mechanical water temp gauge, and it looks as if the sender won't fit using the supplied fitting.
