What are some good mods?????
Since I'm new truck owner and I have seen several first time posts of other new truck owners, I would like to get this thread started to help answer this common question.
SO what are some good mods to increase performance on the modular engine? And do you have anything to support your recommendation? What I mean by support is a dyno chart, many people on the forum agree it is a productive mod, or possible a couple magazine article showing support....... if you don't have any of these things I will still look into anything mentioned
Please list anything even if it might belong in another forum specifically...... If I don't understand or need more info I will ask a more specific question about that mod in the correct forum.
Thanks
Aaron

Hope you're enjoying your truck...
Check this site for some how-to's:

You can find the originals to the how-to's I posted on www.frodf150.net here:

Doing the cheap air-filter mod that I show should gain you a couple horses and if you already have a K&N filter element even better. Gives you the same thing as the $200 intake kits. Has a nice mild sound too.
There's also another mod for the plastic elbow between the MAF and the throttle body but there has been discussions here as to whether it is a useful mod or not as the inside of that elbow with it's insert removed isn't exactly a smooth flowing unit.
My next mod next month will be a flowmaster y-pipe and dynomax ultra-flo 3" muffler. I'll let everyone know how it goes when it's done.
Remember if you opt for a chip you'll need premium fuel and around these parts it's usually 10 cents a liter more in cost. I use around 75 liters average per week which adds up to almost $400 per year. It may not seem like much to most people but I'm not rich so I take things like that into consideration.
If you don't have it already consider going to 3.55 gears or 3.73 for extra "pickup" but your fuel economy will suffer if you go to 4.10 or higher. Numerically higher gear ratio equals more rpm at same speed.
Good luck with your search.

I think that most here will agree the first three mods would be: Superchip, intake (such as Air Force 1), and cat back exhaust ( such as Magna flow).
If you have no plans for supercharging, then ASP underdrive pulleys. Then install Derale twin 16" electric fans.
Since your truck is an '02, ignition upgrade would likely not be necessary at this time.
If your wallet isn't empty yet, then JBA coated headers.
Superchip Mike is a good resource for what works and what doesn't.
I'm no expert, but hope this helps.
