I see this "beast" has a 4L60-E trans. Can this be a weaker unit than our undesireable 4R70W's. I use a 2000 suburban 2500 as a company truck. It has the 300hp 6.0 and is not very impressive. It pulls good but does not set you back in the seat. I imagine the trans. is the same. I know the 4.6 will give it a bad time so a 5.4 should beat it.

does anyone really think the c3 was made to compete with the lightning? it is more comparable to a blackwood. if chevy wanted to make something comparable to a lightning imagine a short bed, regular cab, 6 speed, 4.10 rear end 325 h.p. 6.0 or the 345 version offered by cadilac. now this combo would not beat a lightning but it would definently do a better job than the awd extended cab c3.
fast54triton, you oviously have never driven the new chevys. they pull like heII on the top end and they get better mpg. the ford does everything else better. i am not a chevy lover or for that fact a ford lover, if you race a chevy just shut it down by 65 mph.

I can read. Im just mocking you.

And no, I havent driven a chevy, but ive gotten a ride in one. Yes, he did floor it a couple times, and it does pull, but doesnt feel like my 5.4l.

I just wish we could compare apples to apples. Every time one of those rags publishes some test the vehicles don't match. Every time some one races a Chevy they don't match. So an AWD 3.73 geared 6L 5000# brick goes up against WHAT? Ford doesn't make anything close to this. So who realy gives a *****. Good for you Chevy.

If Ford the builder of the number one selling pick up decides to build one I am sure it will be better than the Chevy.

Bring on your Chevy with your biggest engine reg cab automatic 4x2 and Ford will bring theirs. Make sure the rear gear ratios match and then light them up. I will pay close attention to the those results. Until then.....

Kindest regards

This kid JustMe, kills me...hes one funny little kid.

"If you would like to meat real idiots"

LOL he actually said that in his post. Along with his other "Missinformation" this kid obviously is a Chevy person.

Man you crack me up.You can talk about how good Chevy is all you want, but in truth their trucks are subpar. Sorry but its true. My current manager was a GM program manager for over 15 years and swears by the fact that Chevy's aren't built very good. He was asked to move to the Chevy truck division and instead when to Saturn (Which he says had a great team). He does say that GMC truck team cares ALOT more about their trucks than the Chevy Team. But that really is no surprise there. Chevy's are the "cheaply built GMC's".

FamilyRide, I'm with you. It's too bad this discussion didn't remain on the C3 which I seem to remember one mag named "Truck of the Year" though most have that going the 2500HD. In stead we have brand bashing which proves nothing to anyone, and person bashing which proves, well what does it prove? (no response necessary)

Thumbs down

Just for me did bring up a good point the v6 engine topic. Some of the v6 guys are saying there 4.2L stock will beat a 5.4L anyday. What a joke and they are saying they will kill 4.6L. I never seen such bull until I started defending 5.4L. Just check it out. I don't think the topic started was bashing chevy at all. What he said is the truth whether you like it or not "Just for me".

In all honesty, my post wasnt to bash Chevy, all i said was that they are calling this a performance truck (per their commercials and advertising), yet it's on par with a normal stock f-150 5.4L! Using such a huge engine is also going to give you crap for MPG. I think at $40k, this truck is a true rip-off. You can get a loaded Ford/Chevy/GMC/Dodge w/ leather and everything that will equal this truck for a near 28-32k! Hell you can get a 4 door Ford for low to mid 30's!

DaveH,

When someone says the 4.2l will whoop a 4.6l, they're not too bright. When they say it'll whoop a 5.4l, they're on crack.

I saw the "Truck of the Year" article in Truckin', but then I noticed they said it didn't score the highest point rating and didn't mention which truck did. Hmmm....

The C3 is a good concept but I expected more from a performance standpoint. Considering the numbers, you would think it would perform better. It isn't really very heavy (just over 5000 lbs) and with the HP rating and AWD it just seems below expected.

This brings up another question..... Are the GM trannys really eating up that much more HP than the Ford? The reason I ask is because the dyno charts I have seen only put the 5.3 a few (6-7) HP over the 5.4 on average. This from an engine that is rated at 25 HP more. Is it the tranny or is GM pulling a Cobra on people?

Cool

I'm just passing through here and thought I would shed some light on this subject.

First off, I have never been a Ford guy. I drive a '99 Grand Prix GT which I have been very satisfied with. In my opinion, no other car can touch it (in terms of bang-for-the-buck).

But, in comparing Ford vs. Chevy, even though I'm a GM guy I don't think I would get a Chevy truck. I've heard of a lot of problems with them. Plus I really think the dash looks really outdated compared to others. I wish GM would redo it soon to look more modern.

I wouldn't get a Ford truck either, and seeing the problems on this website will definitely make me think twice. Just the thought of buying any Ford product makes me cringe. I'm not a truck guy to begin with, anyway.

But just to serve as a reminder, you Ford guys who think you're driving a bulletproof vehicle...you're not, neither are the Chevy guys. BOTH manufacturers can stand to improve on quality, not just building cars and trucks. I thoroughly believe that if GM would make quality "Job 1" and spice up their lineup a little, they would seriously kick ***.

To be honest, a Grand Prix is just about the only GM vehicle that I would buy. There'd be a lot more I would consider if quality would improve (and who's to say it hasn't?). But, right now it's a no-brainer.....Go Grand Prix or go Foreign.

That's my $.02, for better or worse.
