Post Towing Temps

I went on a trip to Dale City Va this past weekend towing the horsetrailer with 2 horses, tack, generator, and other stuff. I am one of many who so far has had no luck in getting the correct radiator installed on my truck. The last time I weighed the rig it had a GCVWR of 13,060lbs,(without the generator) which has since increased so out of curiosity I decided to use the test feature on the digital odometer to monitor my engine temps since I know that the gauge is fake. I monitored the temps only for maybe 30 miles of the trip which was at night with an outside temp of maybe 65 to 70 degrees F. The temps got as high as 95 degrees C. My math tells me that that is 203 degrees F someone correct me if I am wrong. It only got to 95 maybe twice and most of the time it was about 93 or 94. Do these numbers look acceptable? I don't know what an ideal temp would be. I am going on another trip with the horses weekend after this coming and I will be traveling in the day time and also there is a long hill on this trip so I will probably leave it in test mode for this entire trip and see what kind of numbers I get. btw I saw the lowest temps with the truck idling at the gas pump( it went down to 91 degrees C.)

Could you please clearify the "Test feature on the digial odometer"? Does the ODO have a method of giving engine temp? This would be very cool if it does. I have never heard of this.
Thanks!

LHM ------ You meed to worry more about tranny temps than engine temperature. Get a tranny temp ga.

Fastdew, to activate the test feature hold down the tripometer button with the engine off and start the truck, this will activate the test feature and I think it will start with a gauge test, all the gauges will peg and return to normal. All you have to do is keep pushing the button until what you want to test shows up on the screen. I think the temp says something like Temp degC000 or something like that, once you select the test you want just drive the truck, the odometer will return to normal once you turn the engine off.

Bubbawaski, the tranny is more so what I am worried about than the engine. The bottom line is I want the radiator that I payed for and I won't to feel confident that I am not destroying my damn truck when I am using it for what it was bought for, so far I have had no luck in getting the correct one, looks like I am going to have to call the dealer again as they have not contacted me like they said they would.

CanadianSCrew,

You will need a "T" fitting. I would use the outgoing line as it will show how hot your tranny realy is.

Hi LHM

Dont have the wrong rad. problem. But after loosing tranny, just now finding out what i need in way of gauges.

Some of the posts i read hear, if there correct. all indicate that the water temp guage is accurate, even thou i dont see it move when im towing, if it does, its just slight, but havent overheated this past summer. For me no steam or overflow. coolant loose etc. (Been said 195deg.normal) But how much it goes up towing for me? On my 99SC not #s on gauge. Just C to H.

Oil pressure guage is not what it appears to be. So....Apparently that one not so good?

JMC-- Been getting info that varies on where best to put sender for tranny temp. guage. One said that you should install adapter in oil pan. Also in line as you said. Any thoughts- why pan?

Thanks. Have a good one. OT
