Are you reading the pressure with an aftermarket gauge? Maybe the stock oil pressure sender is flakey and you don't really have a pressure problem?

Just a thought - good luck.

When my engine is cold pressure reads exactly 80 PSI. After a few minutes of warm-up it reads between 45 and 50 PSI. This is normal with the oil getting up to temperature. Is your pressure dropping below 40 PSI (minimum spec.)?

i think i may just have it. i was thinkin it might be sludge? because when i bought the truck it had 96,000 miles on it and the owners never changed the oil. only added oil so when i got it i ran motor flush through it then an oil change. well i thought maybee the harder sludge may have broken loose and like a straw was being sucked to the screen and stoping up the flow. and just like a straw if you stop the suction the debrie will float away from the screen. so i ran motor flush through it again and its working good now. i guess i better take down the oil pan to see just how much crap in in the pan . thanx for all the input guys

Let us know how it goes with dropping the oil pan. My 2001 shop manual says that on the 4.2L 4X2, you need to pull the engine to get the pan off! What a pain in the a_s_s!
