About how many miles do you go before you have to clean the K&N filter and reoil it as I've been thinking of getting one myself.

Here is what the info sheet that comes with the filter says.
Service every 50-100,000 miles on street driven applications. Service more often in off-road or heavy dust conditions or when air filter reaches 18" of restrictions.
Let the dirt build-up work for you; it will not hurt the performance and actually help filter the air.
I did not make this stuff up, it came word for word with the filter. I have no idea of what they mean by 18" of restrictions.

What is the "elbow silencer"? And, can I see it in the pictures?

deep6blue,

The elbow silencer i guess is just in the name. If you look at the round elbow shaped piece of plastic going into your throttle body there is a small round tube inside that restricts your airflow.
By taking it out its a tiny bit louder 'has a nice groan to it actually" and enables more air flow. I highly recommend seeing the link in my fist post!

Interesting, so basically you just took the piece to the right of the filter out?

Is there anything inside the flex tube that runs from the filter to the throttle body that can be removed?

Well its hard to explain.
Its just a piece of plastice that is pinched inside that main tube. There arent any hoses to deal with except i "think maybe" their might be a hose or something if your engine is a 5.4

heheh sorry guys!

Cool

I cleaned my filter for the first time today. I have had it on (I have the filtercharger kit) for about one year. It was dirty. Don't think I would go 50,000 to 100,000 miles. As far as how it works, the inside of the intake was clean as a whistle.
Filter cleaned up easy and there was no problem re-oiling.
