Unhappy 4.6 wouldn't idle

Yesterday my 98 f-150 would not idle. It would turn over and start then shut off. I started it and gave it some throttle and it would run fine until I took my foot off the gas. I drove it home but I could not take my foot off the throttle, it was tricky since it is a 5-speed! I left it sit for 45 minutes went out and it would idle, but very rough, it smoothed out when I gave it gas. The check engine light never came on. I took it for a ride and really opened it up and it ran and idled fine afterwards. I put some fuel injector cleaner in just in case.

What would cause this? I do a lot of short trips to and from work. I was thinking maybe the battery or a fuel filter but any suggestions from you guys would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Tom

Thanks. I did some reading on the net and that sounds exactly like what it is. Has anyone else replaced or cleaned one of these? Any info you could provide on how it is done or how much they cost would be appreciated.

Thanks Again

Ive probably put on over 500 in the last 8 years. It will cost about 65-75 $. Takes about 10 minutes.
