Question Please help! Blowing starter fuses like mad

I'm posting for a friend, who has a '99 F150 with the 4.6L. The other day his truck wouldn't start so we looked it over and found the starter fuse was blown (starter relay fuse I think). We replaced it and the truck started right up, and ran fine, until tonight. Again the truck won't start, but now it's blowing the fuse after one crank and won't start. Why could the starter fuse be blowing ? Too much voltage, shorting to ground? Where should we start? Any help would be appreciated. It's his work truck and he can't do without it for long. Thanks in advance

Cool

Hi sam ford

It sounds like a bad starter to me.
Something in the starter is probably grounding out.
Not much help but all that comes to mind right now.

Larry.

Hey Sam Ford,

Yes there is a possibility the starter is the cause. I would look real hard at the positive leads going to the starter for chaffing on the frame as well. I have had this type of problem before on my last 1994 ford and it was chaffing on the frame. A buddy of mine also had a shorting wire in the steering colum as well. Just another thing to look at. Good luck in finding this problem....
