Question 5.4 Smoke???

My SCrew has 3500 miles on it and occassionally I see a small amount of smoke come out of the tail pipe when I first start it. It stops smoking almost immediately. Is this normal or do I have a problem? Thanks for the input.

Sounds like a classic example of bad valve stems seals.

could just be condensation burning off. I have noticed it also on my 5.4. A small puddle of water under the tail pipe usually accompanies it.

I've had the occasional small blue puff at cold startup with my 4.6 but haven't noticed any strange noises, extra oil consumption or anything else unusual. Unless it gets worse or burns blue when you drive I wouldn't worry about it.

The wife's 92' VW GTI makes a big puff of blue when it's been sitting for a while... needs valve stem seals. I've just been too lazy to change'em.

Thumbs down

I've got the same thing with my 4.6L but I've also got a passenger side head gasket oil leak as well.
