Custom brake look
I'm picking out new 17" or 18" wheels with 305's this weekend. My question is, if the brakes show through the new wheels how can I give them a custom look without buying new ones? I've seen lots of pics in sport truck mags where the calipers look like theve been custom painted. Is this possible without damaging the brake system? I want the best look with my new wheels, not just the stock stuff showing through. Anyone have pics?

You can paint, plate, powdercoat or polish your non-moving non-mating parts. Be sure to ensure that the parts that slide against one another do not get stuck; and do not chrome-plate or otherwise coat your rotors.

Cool! What kinda dough am I looking at dropping to have them done right? I'd do it myself but the extent of my mechanical abilities is limited to opening a can of tuna. Could a weekend "do-it-yourselfer" tackle a job like painting brake calipers?

Easiest thing to do is purchase some replacement parts -- parts with a core charge that is refundable -- and then take those newly-purchased parts to the chrome-plating shop-du-jour. When they're all bright and pricey-looking, you merely have them swapped -- and get your refund back. It is a LOT nicer than not having your truck while you make her pretty.
