Clarify lug/stud size
Hello everyone!
New member here, just found this board and it looks pretty awesome. Been doin the truck thing for quite awhile, mud racing my '79 Bronco and fixing some others up along the way.
I've got a 2001 Screw, 4x4 Offroad package, etc. and finances are finally going to allow me to start making some of the mods I've been waiting to do. I have a question regarding lug or stud size after reading a few posts on here.
Is it only the LUGS that are different sizes, or are the actual STUDS different? This is referring to the 12mm and 14mm sizes I've read about on here.
I'm looking at a set of 16x10 Weld wheels w/33 in. tires on them. They are currently on a 2-wheel drive truck, and I wanted to make sure there would not be a problem mounting them up. The caps and lugs all come with the deal.
Thanks!

They will swap over as long as they're the 5x135mm pattern. I have wheels off a 99 F150 with 14mm studs on my 97 with 12mm studs. You just need to keep the right lug nuts with the right stud size. The differences are 2mm in diameter (12mm to 14mm) and the thread pitch is different. The 12mm has a 1.75 pitch and the 14mm has a 2.0 pitch. Since you have a 2001 you need to get 14mmx2.0 lug nuts with either a conical seat (acron style) or hub centric (washer style like stock) for your wheels. Most aftermarkets use acorn style and stock is washer style.

That's the one thing I was concerned about. The wheels are currently on a 97 F-150 2wd. I would hate to buy them (especially since I'm in Wisconsin and would be splitting shipping costs to get them from someone in Florida) and then find out the holes aren't big enough to fit over my studs.

Per Ford :
12 mm studs, trucks built before 29-NOV-99
14 mm studs, Trucks built after 29-NOV-99.
This was a mid model year change out with the stud sizes.
Both of these are a 5x 135 pattern ( 5 lug, 135 mm bolt spacing ).
So if you have a 2000 M.Y. truck, you could have either or.
Bratpane,
Could be the case, and now you know your 11/99 build date was before 29-NOV-99 if you had 12 mm lugs.
