I just replaced the rear-end sensor and the rabs light nolonger illuminated after start-up. 20 $ at dealer, does appear slightly smaller. Probably a design change like they did with the trim ring on the auto transmission shifter.

Forgt to mention that I had code 9 (nine flashes) which indicated high resistance in the sensor circuit.

The "Pudge Zone" getting it done...

Code 4, do I know?

"Grounded reset switch circuit" is what I found for a code 4. Not sure if it applies to your configuration though.

Hi there,

My husband is having a problem with his abs light as well going off and on ('93 Explorer Sport). The shop told him he needed a new ABS brain + more testing so he took the truck back and we're going to order the part online. He said he did the light test and got 3 flashes and 2 flashes, I hate to ask but could somebody look up that code? He has a Haynes manual but he said it didn't have the codes. I told him about the abs sensor, I'm praying this isn't going to be a costly repair. He also mentioned a couple of times his brake pedal went to the floor and his brakes locked up so I'm a little concerned.

The Explorer uses a different setup than does the F-150 discussed in this thread.

FWIW, I had a 93 with an intermittent ABS light - intermittent for 189,000 miles....

An ABS code "32" indicates that the computer has identified a problem associated with the right front wheel sensor.

Part Number How to Order

Just replaced ABS rear sensor which was easy. Anybody who
can do an oil change can do this themselves. Got the part from Pepboys online for only $7.69. They paid the shipping and no tax.
Part number is abs530780. Its manufactured by Raybestos and it even came with the Ford Logo stamped on the part. www.1888pepboys.com. I think they will ship anywhere in the US.

Thanks for the thread and everyone's input. My friend had the same problem with his abs light staying on. Ford wanted to charge him 150 to replace that $20 sensor. We did it in ten minutes.

Thanks all

Question

my truck went trhough the shop with diagnostic test $85.
results is the faulty sensor. bought and replaced the sensor, but the light is still on.

the old sensor shows 1080 ohms and it looks like a mag. pickup, so I put a bolt in the front of it and ohms ready stay the same.

the new sensor shows OL (open) and I put a bolt in touch with it, meters reads 1023 ohms.

either the shop did not do it right or the part is faulty.

where can I find a list of fault code and how can I test a sensor ?

Someone said that the explorer uses a different setup then the F-150... is that on the sensor itself? If so, how's it different?

ABS

Just out of curiosity, where are you getting these cheap prices for the abs rear differential sensor? I called 2 local dealerships in my area and they wanted 38-45 dollars for the sensor. I tried o'reilly auto parts website but can't seem to find the right part during the search. I tried rock auto website but it is discontinued. My truck is a 99 F-150 V6.

Thanks,

cdawley,

I got mine recently at Kragen Auto Parts for 11.99. If you dont have a Kragen nearby, they have it available online at...

http://www.partsamerica.com/

(click 'Replacement parts', then 'ABS parts', then 'speed sensor')

Cheers, Wm.

I went to Advance Auto Parts to check on the part and the manager at the store said that Advance Auto Parts owns Parts America. He also said they don't carry Raybestos brand products in the store and they have a different brand. He told me to call him with the part number when I got home. Once I got home, I called and he said he didn't have it and it may be a dealer item. My question is that if I order the one from Parts America for 11.99, will it fit my truck? If it doesn't, what is their return policy?

Thanks,

Chris

I don't think there is any worry about it fitting, it's a pretty simple part (one plug/one bolt). That's the EXACT one I bought for my 2000...identical to my OEM part (both made in Japan), fit great (even had a ford logo on it).

I would just call them and specify you want the rear speed sensor.

Cheers, Wm.
