Post Tires Sizes???

I'm thinking of putting larger tires onto my 98 4x4. I was thinking of either 285/75R16 or 305/70R16. What size wheels have you guys tried with these tires? Plus, without a lift, will I have any tire to body contact? Lastly, what needs to be changed to get the speedometer calibrated for the new tire sizes?

Thanks in advance.

I have the 285's on my rig with A/R 16X8's Pythons. I up'd the T-Bars aprox 3/4". No probs w/ rubbing. The speedo is a bit off calibration. I have tried to have the PSOM (Speedo computer) recalibrated by the dealership w/out any luck. They couldn't get the Revolutions Per Mile (tire revolution) down to 630 from 694.

Get the 305's. They seem to fill the wheel well a bit more.

Good luck.

Let me know if you put the Flowmaster on. I'd like to know how it sounds and performs. That's on the X.

Thumbs up

I have the 285's on factory wheels. They look great no rubbing anywhere. I haven't tightened the torsion bars either. This is a common question with quite a bit of info and pictures. Try doing a search. I don't think anybody has had any regrets with the 285's.

I just bought a set of 5 star lariat rims (stock 16" x 7" rims) I put 285/75/65 donlup radial rover at's on And It look much better and does not rub anywhere. It handles alot better then it did with stock good years. Lost quite a bit of power, though wish that did not happen it wasn't fast to begin with. As for speedo It is only off by about 3 mph. That is 3mph slower so dont worry about just drive and be careful. 1 good thing I am still under warranty and it will actually slow down mileage a little bit. Any little bit will help.
