I haven't heard of any changes since '97 when Ford went with the 5x135mm hub.

I hope they didn't change. I want to swap wheels between my 2000 F150 and '97 Expedition.

Thumbs up

They didn`t change the lug size since 1997 on the trucks. You can still get the same ORP wheels on the new 2000`s that came out in 1997.........Lariat#1

Ford has switched to a larger Stud/Nut during the 2000 model year. The '97 and later wheels may or may not fit the larger studs. If you are using aftermarket wheels, make sure that they are approved for the new studs/nuts. Just because they fit does not mean that they are approved.

All 2000 F-150's (excluding F-150 equipped with 7-stud wheels and the 7700 payload group), Expeditions and Navigators build after 11/27/99 have the new wheel studs and nuts. The thread diameter increased from 12mm to 14mm and torqued to 150 ft-lb. The new parts are not interchangeable with old, but I don't think the stud pattern has changed.

I checked my wheel stud size last night, at about 11:30PM. My truck was built in October 1999 and does have the smaller 12mm wheel studs.

Has anyone had a problem with the smaller studs? Why the switch to 14mm?

I suspect it could be to handle all the weight of the Expedition, and maybe even the replacement of the "who thought that one up" 7,700 7 lug wheels.

I think Ford switched just to be a pain in the @ss.

The new studs take 14mm x 2 nuts. It must be a somewhat common size. I walked into a wheel shop yesterday and bought a complete set.

Just for clarification the bot pattern is 5x135mm. Not sure about the thread size.
