Post 265 tires w/3:08

hi all: just a quick question. i realize this has probably been discussed before.
does anyone have a v6 5spd with 3:08 gears and 265x75 tires.
if so how is the performance? i currently have 245x75 tires and i don't think it would be that great of a change. i know new gears would greatly enhance the performance but the change for those is not in the pocket right now.

I sure do WildChild,

I have the same truck with the 265/75R16 tires. (I think this is the maximum size you can put on your truck with 3.08 gears). I lost a little bit of low end power and mpg is down a tad. But not enough for me to put back on my training wheels

It took my a little time to get used to the new shifting positions. I don't really use the 5th gear anymore (always have to downshift going up small hills). I am thinking about 3.73 or 3.55 gears later on because if you use your truck for off-road, you may wish you had a 5.4l engine.

Meaning that you will find yourself in low gear all the time with those tires. I now need to shift my transfer case in LOW 4x4 to go to places I went before in reg. gear.

I am "toughing it" for now until I can get the cash to change gears (I love to go into the mountains). I will get a SuperChip soon to help my engine a little with my new effective gear ratio due to the tire size. I think that if you really love the look of the bigger tires, go for it. But set aside a little cash to put a little more power into your engine. Here is a pic of my truck with those tires...

I had 235's w/ my 4.2/5-spd/3.08, when I stepped up to the 255's the bottom-end was a 'lil more sluggish. I have since changed to a 3.55LS, the difference is not severe, but it IS noticable. Doc

Your gearing will go down into the high twos with 265's. For every inch in tire height you increase, subtract 0.10 from your gear ratio.
