Post SMALLER RIMS.....BIGGER, WIDER TIRES

QUESTION TO ANYONE WHO IS WILLING TO SOLVE MY PROBLEM.

I JUST BOUGHT A 2000 LARIAT 4X4 WITH 260/70/17 WITH 17 X 7.5 RIMS. THESE CAME STOCK. I WAS CONTEMPLATING ON GETTING NEW WHEELS. THE NEW SIZE I'M THINKING ABOUT GETTING IS 16 X 8 RIM WITH 275/70/16 BFG ALL TERRAIN TA KO'S. I WANT A BEEFIER LOOK IN REGARDS TO THE WHEELS. WILL THIS LOOK ANY BETTER?

THE WHEELS THAT ARE CURRENTLY ON MY TRUCK LOOK TOO SKINNY TO ME. AND THEY DON'T STICK OUT ENOUGH. I'M LOOKING AT ONE OF THE DEEP DISH RIMS BY ENKIE, WILL THIS SOLVE ANOTHER ONE OF MY PROBLEMS?

I JUST WANT A CLEAN LOOK, BUT NOT ONE OF THOSE MONSTER TRUCK LOOKS.

OH YEAH, WHAT IS THE BIGGEST SIZE OF TOTAL WHEEL DIAMETER & WIDTH HAS ANYONE SEEN ON A F-150 4X4 WITHOUT ANY MAJOR MODIFICATIONS, (EX. 2,4,6 INCH RAISES)

PLEASE HELP!!!!!

The 275/70 r16's are a smaller diameter tire but slightly wider. The largest tires i've seen on an unmodified F-150 are 305/70R16's equivalent to 33x12.5 R16's. I'm switching from those horrid 235's on mine to either 295 or 305/70R16's on my 2000 XLT 4X4. Hope I helped out a little

Hey Ieatdrt,

Thanks for replying. But will those 295's or 305 fit on yor truck without rubbing. I'm guessing you have lifted up your truck to accomodate these wheels, huh?

I don't want to spend the extra cash to lift up my truck, that's why I'm looking at either 275/70/16 or some 285/75/16. I like the 285's, but someone said they rub a little, when backing up. Just as long as they don't rub at all when going forward, I'd be okay with that. Do you honestly think that the 285's would fit okay without rubbing? And would they affect my gear ratio and overall performance?

Actually these tires do fit without any major modifications..slight trimming of the front valance is necessary but no fender trimming or anything noticeable. You can let the tire rub the plastic valance away a little but i don't recommend it. I just use a dremel tool to trim the plastic down a shade

Hey ieatdrt,

I don't quite understand by you saying "trimming the front valance". What exactly is the front valance? And how much did you have to cut away? Is it noticeable? Sorry for all the questions. I just want to make sure I'm making the right decision when the time comes for my to get my new wheels.

Thanks for you opinions and responses!!!!

If you go to Procomptires.com there's a section called Tire conversion. if you put in the metric size eg. 305/70r16 it'll give you the actuall tire diameter in inches but not the widths. But for now here ya go:
305/70R16=32.8"
295/75R16=33.4"
the 305's are wider but a lil shorter.

Cool

285's will not rub, I repeat will not rub a stock 4x4 with the ORP. I just put some on 2 weeks ago and they show no signs of rubbing, even with the torsion bars not cranked. I have put them in positions trying to see if they will rub but they dont. I had 265's before, but they are small compared to 285's, it's the perfect fit for a 4x4, that and 305's.

Measurements from 4lo.com

265/75/16= 31.6 height/10.4 wide/16 rim

275/70/16= 31.2/10.8/16

285/75/16= 32.8/11.2/16

295/75/16= 33.4/11.6/16

305/70/16= 32.8/12.0/16

Looks like you'd be better of with a 285.

Hey ieatdrt:

Just a little bit I've experianced w/ my f-150's. Prior to my 2000 w/ off road package I had a '99 4x4 (no off road), I put 295/75/r16's and I had to trim the valence a little, like mentioned before on this page but I guess w/ the off package of this new one, it has just a bit taller suspension. My 295's fit great if your in reverse and have the tires turned they rub just slightly but its Soooo minor that I dont worry. If you can I recommend the 295's over 285's or 305's just makes the truck look a little beefier!!!
