Angry Will Lightning wheels fit my 1999 F150 4X4?

Help, I'm so confused.

DPM couldn't tell me whether they would fit.
They suggested I call the Motorsport Hot line
Marty at the Motorsport Hot Line says the Lightning wheels would not fit my truck. Tire Rack says they will. I measured the Hubs. Both Front and rear are the same; 86mm. The front spindle protruded @ 13 mm out more than the rear axle. This would seem to be able to fit under the cap. I believe the bolt pattern is the same. What am I missing?
I believe they will fit but want to be 100%sure before buying.

Can anyone comment on actually fitting these wheels on a 1999 4X4 with a manual transfer case?

Thanks in Advance.

Thumbs up

Yeah, it sounds like a match to me...I was looking to do the same thing, I really like the L wheels, and I see no reason why Ford would want to change the hub/bolt patterns between the L's and 4x4's or any of the other F150 models - I mean, if its for strength reasons, wouldn't a 4x4 experience as much stress from offroading as an L from a full throttle start...??? anyway, I WANT THEM!!!

Oh, but I forgot to add that it will probably be tough to find an 18" offroad tire...oh well, there is nothing perfect in this world...

Captain win dsor, Isee on the bottom of your reply you mentioned 5 weeks to delivery, is this for your Lwheels, I ordered mine from downs and they promised a week til deilivery, before purchasing them I first asked and they do work and will look good on a 4x4..

Exclamation

Somewhere between the 99 and 00 model years the stud size changed from 12mm to 14mm. The L wheels out on the market right now are most likely 12mm holes, where as the ones on back order will probably be 14mm.

This is according to DPM, so you'll need to check your stud size. My 2000 F150 4x4 has 12mm studs. An easy way to tell is see if you can pass a 1/2"(13mm) bolt thru one of your lug nuts. If you can, they're 14mm, if you can't they're 12mm.

Hope this saves some aggrevation!

Wink

I just put the Gen II Lightning wheels on my 2000 F150 4x4 (reg cab, short box). I used Bridgestone Dueler DP 680 (285 60 18) tires. They fit, but the upper control arm on the front is within 1/2" of the rim. They must have a different offset/back spacing than my stock 17's. I also had to relocate the driver's side parking brake cable, it was rubbing the tire. That may also have to do with the fact that I lowered it. The only other fitment issue someone may encounter is if your truck was made after Dec. xx 1999. I believe the studs after that date are 14mm versus the 12mm like mine.

Hope this helps.

Sorry Racer_Rob, I forgot that you have manual hubs. I have the auto hubs on my truck. I don't know / haven't heard of a manual hub 4x4 wearing these wheels yet.

Good Luck

Question

Thanks Dynodan! Your truck looks great!! I've got a set of the L wheels w/P285-60's on order. QUESTION - How did you relocate the parking brake cable on the rear drivers side to miss the tire? Mine has only about a 1/2 inch clearance on the stock 16" wheels w/ P255-70's. Not any slack on mine to pull the cable away & tie it back.

Thanks for the Info
BassDean
