Question Help with load range

I currently have the Goodyear RT/s 245/75/16 load range D tire and it's about time to get rid of those sorry tires. My question is can I put load range C on my truck. The door jam states load range D and I currently pull a popup camper that weight about 1800 pounds. But next year I will be in the market for a travel trailer that will be around 5000-6000 pounds. Been looking around and have seen the Dunlop Radial Rover AT with a load range D but would really like to get the Bridgestone Duelers AT, but they are a load range of C. Can anyone help me with this? Also does anyone know of any other tires that have load range D.

Thanks

Two easy options:

a) get P-series tires with the eXtra Load (XL) feature

b) simply use P-series tires where 85% of the combined tire load (on the tire) is at least as much as the expected load that the tires will see. For a normal F-150 you'll have no problem finding tires that will meet those demands.

P-Series tires mean Passenger Car tires -- and the load on the tire is maximum load -- whereby the running load is somewhere around 85% of that load (means that the tire manufacturers legally cheat and use the high numbers as a marketing ploy). Light Truck (LT) tires, however, are intended for the rated load to be the as-used load.

I suspect that you have a 7700 series -- and I have not yet looked for other tires that will carry that load. I have the same tires as you. While I have not experienced any of the wet traction problems expressed by others on this board, the tire noise is driving me nuts!

For a primer, see: http://www.goodyear.com/us/tire_school/index.html

I wished I had the 7700lb series, I looked and it states it is the 6000lb GVWR on the door jam and on the window sticker. That means how much weight the truck can have. Right? It is also the 4.6 with 4WD. Just wondering if load range C would be okay with a travel trailer.

BFG 265/75/16 and 285/75/16 are both an excellent 8 ply load range D tire and look great on these and any other truck. Check 'em out at http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/ I've had these on severfal trucks and my Jeep and have been completely satisfied with their load capacity and traction. Only complaint was all three sets of 285's seemed to take a overly great amount of weight to balance.

Question

With a 5000 to 6000lb trailer, wouldn't you need a load range E, 10 ply rating?

I don't believe "load" is equivalent to trailer weight. The tongue weight (load) should only be around 500-600 lbs.
