Angry Streaked Alum Wheels, Help!

While washing the otherday I used Meguiars Gold Wheel cleaner on my new polished alum. rims. Not thinking about affects because I had used this product several times on a prior truck with alum rims. Some type of chemical reaction took place and my rims show light streak marks all over them. I nutralized the reaction with vinigar which stopped it, however I can not remove the streaks. Somebody tell me I did not ruin my brand new wheels! Any suggestion for cleaning up this mess, removing the streaks!

Please Help!

Unhappy

I had the same problem on my Eagle Alloy rims on my Honda Accord. I used Eagle One wheel cleaner.
It would not come out with any cleaner, until I tried Mothers Wheel polish. It comes in a small container. It's a cream substance that has a buffing compound in it. It took about 20 minutes to do each wheel and after that it looked brand new.
Good luck.

Welcome to the long list of "I wish I bought chrome wheel owners"...I think everyone that owns the polished wheels has come across your problem...Like the prior post states try Mothers wheel polish or Blue magic polish..both work great....it will take you awhile to get them all polished..I even put a coat of wax on them after...I pulled them off one at a time to clean around the nuts..nothing like dirt or stain around your nuts....Good luck..my next rims will be chrome..more money less maintnance.....Dave

Davensa is right. It seems on polished rims, the crud sticks more than chrome rims. So you're gonna have to put alittle effort into buffing the stains out. If you still can't remove it; try a local rim shop that can polish rims. Also be careful of tire products like Amor All and those tire foam sprays. They can stain rims as well.

Cool

Hmmm, now why do they say 'not' to get the spray on your vehicles paint, and to only wait 30 seconds before rinsing it off?

Your aluminum rims are clearcoated, just like your paint, and therefore should be treated just the same. I used Castrol Wheel Cleaner, and got spots. I haven't buffed them out as of yet, but if your streaks are bad enough, you might have to have them reclear coated. At my dealership, somebody in the body shop had sprayed a set of custom aluminum rims with wheel acid....Not good, you should see these things..

So, all I wash my rims with is the same stuff I wash my paint with, car soap. Meguiars to be more specific.

Cool

What about Billet wheels. Do they have the same maintenance nightmares as clear coated wheels? Or are they also clearcoated. This could affect my wheele choice. I am looking at some chrome wheels from KMC, billet wheels from Budnik, or argent silver 20" wheels form OZ.
