Question 16" Hub-Centric Rim Availability

After our first rain in a long time (San Antonio, TX), I have finally decided to replace the stock GY RTS (slippery death-magnets) with a more suitable tread, the BFG AT. As the availability of 17" BFG-AT tires at this time is limited to a single size (265/75/17), I decided to opt for a more practical (ok, larger) tire in the 16" flavor. A visit to my local Discount Tire Store lead to the discovery that they do not offer "hub-centric" wheels to fit the new (1997=new?) F-150 trucks. Am I being bamboozled, hood-winked even, or am I simply not requesting the correct wheel configuration (5 x 135mm)? Any advice, comments, or prayers would be greatly appreciated. Specifically, what wheel manufacturers offer "hub-centrics" for our "new" trucks. Thanks in advance.

PS - after tonight (Tuesday) I will be in the field working and will be unable to respond / defend myself.

Most of the major wheel manufacturers offer this. AR, Eagle, centerline.

You know, I dont know what else uses the 5x135 bolt pattern? I dont think that anything else does, so why would a manufacturer NOT make a wheel hub centric. Hopefully someone else will know.

Matt90GT:

Discount Tire informed me that American Racing did not manufacture/ offer the hub-centric design to fit the F-150s; however, they did offer the 5x135 pattern!? I have not had the opportunity to contact AR directly, so this is all that I have to go on.

Just looked back at some of your pix: I like - very nice. So, the wheels I should request are American Racing Bajas. Any specific #s (e.g., 589, etc...)

BTW - formerly lived in BR; miss home!

Mahoney:

I just re-ordered my new rims, and as CCLA has stated 'American Racing' does produce and distribute [ HUB-CENTRIC ] rims.

I ordered the AR Baja's the same size CCLA has, after learning that my old new rims were not of a [ HUB-CENTRIC ] design.

If you do not get the [ HUB-CENTRIC ] design then what my recent experience has taught me is that the wheels will balance great every time on the machine.

However when you goto mount the wheels to your truck, and you drive it you will feel an out of balance condition, because the rim reverts back to the bolt stud pattern for its centering on your hubs.

Sorry to rattle on, just wanted to type something too ...

No, "Baja" is fine; just wanted to have all numbers, designations, mother's maiden names before I re-enter Discount Tire next week to order my replacements. Bajas are offerred in 16s, aren't they?

Question

CCLA & NITROX:

Now, if you guys could just help me with my other conundrum: AT or MT!

My only concern is the performance of the MT on wet pavement. My current GY RTS are nightmares. Will the MTs perform similarly, or should I avoid them and stick with the ATs?
