Tires

Replacing the tires on my 1999 F-150 4X4. It has a 5.4 with 3.73 rear end and 17' wheels. I have a friend that has some 31 X16 tires that have a D load rating he'll sell me for $500 and throw in the 16in rims. The real questions is I tow a 30 ft camper and think these tires might be to tall or rub.

No problems at all, if you have the 17 inch wheel now, your tires are about 31" tall anyway.

31" is not a tall tire for a 4x4 by any strech of the imagination. I would guess your stock tires are bigger than 31". Nevertheless, [url=http://www.randysringandpinion.com/calculators/calctireh.html]This Link[\url] will figure how tall your tires are for sanity sake.

For what it's worth, I picked up a set of 235/85/16 on alloy wheels for $400. They are 31 3/4" tall. No rubbing.

By going to the 16" rims you will also lower your gear ratio to 3.92 or there abouts, = higher engine rev, less mpg but more power for pulling
