Question Letter From Ford About Firestone

I just recieved a letter from Ford telling me that acording to theit records the Firestone tires on my truck are not being recalled. The problem is my truck has the 4x4 off road package with 17" wheels and 265/70R17 Goodyear Wrangler RT/S tires.
I bought the truck used and I was given a copy of the original window sticker that says I have the 4x4 ORP but its a Lariat so it has no decal.

Are Fords's records incorrect or did the previous owner swap wheels and tires?

I received the same letter and I have a 2000 Ford Lariat 4x4 with the Off-road package. Their records are incorrect because I bought my truck new and it came with the 265 goodyear wrangler ATs also.

Ford is sending the letter to all their registered light truck and SUV owners. If I'm not mistaken the only affected vehicles are the Rangers and Explorers. I think Ford is taking a lot of bad press for a problem that is not even their fault. The only thing they did wrong was pick Firestone for their factory tires.

------------------
Stock Stuff:
Y2K SCab 4X4, Chesnut Metallic, 5.4L, 3.55 Limited Slip, Skid Plates, Factory AM/FM/CD, 40/60 Split Bench, Sliding Rear Window, Towing Package and Keyless Entry.

Extras so far:
305/70X16 GY Wrangler ATS on American Eagle Series 146 chrome wheels.

Future plans:
Airbox mod/FIPK, Flowmaster 40 Series muffler, stainless exaust tip, tint windows, spray in liner (or Herculiner haven't decided), stainless step bars, hood deflector, chip? we'll see.

Cool

I haven't received any letter, but FORD is partially to blame. They had to know that these tires had already been recalled on ford vehicles in 7 other countries, yet they still continued to use them in the US. The also recommended (and did to some explores) that the tires be underinflated to increase the stability of the top heavy explorers and such. It has now been determined that under inflation is a major factor in the tread seperating from these tires.

I replaced my tires soon after the recall was anounced and they were only doing a firestone to firestone swap. I will now be trying to get the $100 per tire reinbersment that they are offering. There was no way I was putting another set of firestone tires on anything I own. Went with Michelin tires this time.

Question

I got my letter today. It says the recall only includes 15" tires. My truck doesn't have Firestones and certainly doesn't have 15". Why did they even send it?????????

Thumbs up

They sent my letter to remind me that if I hadn't sold my Explorer, I'd be getting new tires for free right now!

And then... Ford sent me yet another letter to remind me that the 92 Ranger I got rid of in 1998 did in fact not have the factory tires on it... after 130,000 miles? An OEM Firestone, yeah right!

Good one, Ike!

Never pass up an advertizing opportunity.

It's the one they miss that rolls over in the weeds that really costs a lot more than a few million pieces of postage.

Would YOU want to be the guy that missed sending Granny a letter?

Talking

I received the same letter too. I believe that Ford is sending out these letters to allay fears in their entire light truck customer base.

Jeez, I was sent a box of cookies from one of my local Ford dealers and a congratulatory letter for buying a vehicle from their dealership. What I really had done was buy an extended warranty on my old 97 F150 back then from them.

People just don't pay attention to what's in their databases anymore....

-Kindest regards

I received a letter also (well 2 - one for the truck I just traded in also)....Nice of FORD to notify all light truck and SUV owners regardless if they are affected. I think with all of the talk of possibly expanding the recall to other vehicles (tire sizes), they just want to make sure everyone is kept up to date on the current "facts".

By instructing owners to operate tires at a lower tire presure,(just as they do with trucks)and the fact that Ford designed the tires they have a alot at stake hear.(billions)
